buckbuster01
This weekend I am headed to Illinois for a week bow hunt. This only being my second time in this part of the country I'm still learning. What type of rutting activity can I expect. Is there any other hints that might help me bag the big one? I'll be hunting in Fayette County.
Guest Primetime/IL
Fayette is just a county to the left of me, Im in Effingham. As for the activity...things have been slow with the warm weather lately but you should be hitting it perfect timeing. A cold front is supposed to move in on thursday night and bring highs around 50 for the next week or so. Things will start to get real good. I have not witnessed any chasing but I have heard of a few guys say they have seen some. I would say you picked the best time possible. Good luck and be sure to show us what you get!! Tominator
I think you're going to hit it perfect. Only advice I could give you would be to pack your lunch in and stay on stand all dang day.
Illinois59
Buckbuster, i will be right there with you. I will be in near Danville, Illinois starting saturday. I have to agree with Tominator, pack a lunch, some snacks, water, a hand held video game. Control your scent, play the wind and stay warm. There be giants out there... backwoods07
They're seeking hard now. In the last ten days, we haven't seen a buck not chasing. We've seen some big boys that we haven't seen before that we think are coming off the property next to ours. AWESOME time to come here, and good luck!!! rad_112176
You couldn't catch IL at a better time. You will be hitting the coldest days we have had so far along with the chasing stage heating up. Definately pack you lunch and plan to be in your stand as long as you can. Good Luck. I will be in Jefferson County over the weekend.
MUDRUNNER
I hunt in Montgomery county which is right next to Fayette. This weekend should be darn near perfect. It's been warm, but a cold front is coming through today so the action should be picking up.You'll definately want to take your rattling horns, estrous bleat, and a grunt call in the woods with you this weekend. hoosierhunter
I would say the best advice I know what your looking for going into the hunt...There could be a big difference on what a "shooter" is in your woods and what a shooter is over there...Just know what your looking for and don't be affraid to let a "fence" buck walk in the first day or two if your hunting 7 days..........I would expect that if your using a outfitter that the minumum to shoot would be a 140 by their standards.....GL and let us know how it goes...Welcome to the forums by the way....
