Texan_Til_I_Die
...for a new pig stomper. Semiauto, good accuracy out to 300 yards, rugged, must accept both low and high capacity magazines. Prefer to keep the cost under $1500 (excluding scope). wtnhunt
Thinking I am going to check into a rock river lar in .308 Mike. They guarantee a 1 inch moa @ 100 yards. Retail on the A4 is $1125. Here is a link http://www.rockriverarms.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=category.display&category_id=256.

Texan_Til_I_Die
Black guns are by far my weakest area of expertise. I've shot several that belonged to others, including some that were selective fire. But I've never owned one and really don't know where to start. Maybe I should ask Ted Nugent for suggestions? Never owned one before my rock river varmint either Mike, I want another one and think I probably need to get it while I can, but think I will opt for the .308 in my next one. There are a lot of good options out there in the price range you posted. I looked pretty close at the dpms and rock river varmint models. The varmint model I have in .223 is pretty heavy, but it is an absolute tack driver and has been deadly on the yotes here. Personally I really do not want to wait and see if maybe the liberals will maybe surprise us and not push for the awb and bans on semi-autos after January 20th, I am looking now. Texan_Til_I_Die
Yep, the unfortunate events of the last election have definitely altered my timetable. Otherwise, I'd wait until after deer season, and then take my time to find something. The other thought I had, is that there may be a run on these types of weapons which will in turn cause a shortage, and maybe even price increases. I believe you are probably right. I am going to be getting some quotes here shortly, I figure that availability might be an issue too, but hopefully I will be able to get what I am after. WaCoyote
Take your pic. http://www.dpmsinc.com/firearms/category.aspx?id=9 This is what I'd get though. Love that .260. http://www.dpmsinc.com/firearms/firearm.aspx?id=
Orion_70
I've been putting off purchasing one of these for a while now... I think I've got the incentive I need now with the latest election results. We all know they're going to push to bring back the Brady Bill and assault weapons ban, that's no big secret

Love that .260. http://www.dpmsinc.com/firearms/firearm.aspx?id=22 Have heard good things about the dpms too and may end up going that route with my next one. Looks like the rock river standard A4 in .308 is going to be hard to find. The rock rivers do have some very good reviews though Mike, if you can find one in the caliber and style rifle you want. Here is a review on the varmint model http://www.snipercentral.com/rra.htm. I have the 20 inch barrel model and typically get sub 3/4 groups out of mine @100 yards with the ultramax 55 grain soft points. The black hills 55 grainers groups open up a little but still under an inch. Also ran across this link to an excerpt from a book which might be helpful http://books.google.com/books?id=6Ocu_C6xMdwC&pg=PA251&lpg=PA251&dq=rock+river+rifles&source=bl&ots=g2J4IiD1xF&sig=m_bZjx2NXwIeOZNpmCIvlWrWrf4&hl=en&sa=X&oi=book_result&resnum=10&ct=result#PPA255,M1
csualumni21000
Get a cav arms. You can call them and tell them what you want. Another option is a SLR-15, again call and tell them what you want. Small shooter based companies, not big companies. Ar's are the best for introducing new shooters, no recoil and a flat shooting cartridge in 223.
Texan_Til_I_Die
Well, I don't think I'd exactly qualify as a new shooter. Thanks for the advice, but based on the fact that my intended targets will mainly be hogs in the 100 - 400 lb range, I think I'll opt for the 308 chambering. Assuming I can find one, of course.
