Is i true that when sitting in a riffle u should be a half in above center at 20 yards and it will be center at 100yrds?

LMAO--sorry, but that brought a teacher chuckle to me. :D

When sighting in a rifle, it might be a half inch high at 20 yards, but it all depends on the rifle, bullet, etc.

I'll let the ballistics gurus handle this one.

Are you shooting the iron sights or scope? If you are shooting a scope, how high above center of barrel is line of sight? For my rifles, which is mostly 1.5" above center of barrel, I start by putting it roughly right on at 50 yards. Then when I move to the 100 yard line I am in the general area of where I want to be at, which is 1.75" - 2" high.

Simple answer no you will not be center at 100 yards.

I had a friend who thought this and always sighted in his rifles at 25 yards and then said he was zero at 100. Then he would complain that he missed his elk.

I had to take him to a range where we could sight in at 25 yards... a dead zero. Then I put the target in the 100 yard tunnel. We had zero wind etc, just light. I had him bench his rifle, he shot and now he was about 6" high and 6" Right of center.

This could be the reason he missed his elk at 300 yards.

We then adjusted his dials and got him center at 100 yards, and then came back where he was about 1" low at 25 yards.

Never accept what you do at 20 or 25 yards to mean your on the money at 100 yards.
