pointing_dogs_rule
Here in Iowa you can hunt your property, however, you can not shoot across property lines without permission. If that is the rule in your state then make aboslutely sure he understands that part of the law. good luck to all the dog
backwoods07
Here in Iowa you can hunt your property, however, you can not shoot across property lines without permission. Same rule in IL. IMO he definitely knows this and thinks he's pulling a fast one. If he shoots a deer, there really is no way to determine where the deer was standing when he shot it. It would be a quick drag back to his property. I would DEFINITELY talk to the hunter or the landowner. If they do nothing, I wouldn't hesitate to call local law enforcement or DNR and explain the situation. Legally, they can't do anything, but a smart officer will realize what he is doing and maybe send the hunter a warning. It's always tough dealing with neighbors that are hunting the same deer you are. When situations like these arise, you would hope that the neighbors are as ethical as you are. In a perfect world, hunters wouldn't do this to other hunters.
jbeck
can't govern morals, I'd move the dripper because he's leagle even though he's not ethical. I would get to mad over a deer. JMO
brownie65
I would put up a stand on my side of the fence right beside him & sit in it as long as he is in his. he probably won't like this & should get the hint to move. I have actually done this before. I am not condoning screwing up peoples hunting but I hate when stands are put up on a fenceline. Especially if it is facing your way. If the stands are on my side of the fence, thats easy , I take them. I took one down last year that was on my ground, in a fenceline, facing my direction. I took it & left a note. He called me & his answer was that is how u hunt. You hang a stand the opposite direction that you want to shoot. He said he was shooting behind the tree on his side. Well that answer didn't fly with me. Anyway I would talk to them , if they won't move off the fence a ways then I would set one up right beside him. Rut_N_Strut
If he is legal not much you can do. make sure he knows if he shoots across the fence you will press charges. it is a tough situation
csualumni21000
Move the dripper. If you force a confrontation be ready for the worst and hope for the best. I would use the restroom at that stand and if you need a place to dump guts it would be well within your rights to do it.

And that will make things better.... Try talking to the guy, maybe that is the most mature thing to do. Tell him you bring young hunters along with you like a younder brother, son or a neice/nephew. Explain that you are concerned of his intentions of shooting blindly onto your lease. If you don't get anywhere, then move your stand and just monitor the situation. If and when he violates the law, call En-Con. Have to remember here, this is not a life or death situation, I mean hunting. No reason to do things to agitate another human being who you do not know who they are or what they are capable of.. ESPECIALLY, while they are carrying a loaded firearm.
