Congrats to your wife. Too bad the meat spoiled on you.

The wife and I both agree. We are so bothered by it we are re-evaluating weather or not to continue carying on the heritage of hunting within our family.

We are just not used to the way that hunting seasons up here in Maine have been starting out with much warmer weather.I feel totaly responsable for not taking the correct measures needed to save the venison. My wife has been only deer hunting for 2 years and she is in the learning stages of how to take care of the kill. This is deffinatly the wrong way and I now have my doubts in my ability to teach her and her daughters to hunt.

I have been an avid hunter for over 25 years but have only been deer hunting for about 10. I bagged my first buck only 8 years ago and have average 1 every other year.My step-daughter bagged her first deer 2 years ago when I took her on what we call "youth day" and not once have I seen one spoil so quickly like this buck did.

1st off welcome to Realtree swampthing:).

Congrats to the Mrs. on a fine buck and I'm sorry that the meat spoiled on you.

It usually takes one incident like that to make sure it NEVER happens again. That is a bummer for sure.

Skin that animal ASAP to help it to cool down and hang it head down.

Good Luck.

First of all...congrats to your wife on a great buck.

Keep in mind, hunting deer or any other game is and will always be a continuing learning process in all aspects of the hunt. Just consider this another lesson learned, move forward and put this behind you.

The Mrs. and I thank you all for the positive comments on her deer and want to let you know that they are helping us

cope with what happen.

to show our appreciation I have included a picture of 3 Moose and 1 deer that was in our back yard at the same time just 3 weeks ago.Note that there are 2 bulls and one cow moose ther were 3 more moose just up around the corner. The deer is a doe that crosses around the same time every day. ENJOY!!
