Well this morning I was in the stand and at 6:45 I was freezing cause I took off my jacket and it fell out of the stand b4 daylight this morning. I looked up and here came 2 little yearling does I took a shot and missed one at about 15 yards which should have been bread n butter but i shot right under her. I got down at 7:00 and went and got my arrow. I got back to the tree and put my jacket on and looked around and the wind had stopped blowing. I decided to get back in the stand. I hadn't been in the stand for 5 minutes when I heard crunch crunch crunch. I knew a deer was coming. I grabbed my bow and stood up. Then I saw bone coming through the thicket. He came down and was coming into a small shooting lane I had. I drew back and stopped in in the shooting lane with a grunt with my voice. I let the arrow fly and he tried to duck it. When the arrow hit he dropped to the ground like a spine shot I could see it hit him high. He rolled around and I was trying to get another shot put into him but I had no opening. He got up and tried to run but He was staggering and wobbling bumping into trees and he could barely get through there. I got down and found blood and marked it and I found my arrow It came out of him and It looked like it only got in about 8 inches or so. I backed out and am waiting for about 5 or 6 hours before I go back in. I'm gonna wait until my grandpa who's been deer hunting for about 40 years and is a very experienced tracker before I go back in to get him. Do you think 5 or 6 hours is enough or should I wait longer????

I think you made the right decision by waiting and not pushing the deer. That should be a good enough amount of time, when you go back, be sure and be very cautious just in case you only got one lung, if he is still alive you may be able to back out and not spook him if indeed you only got one lung. Be patient and you will find him. Good luck!!

Hope it was just a shock to the spine. I've lost a deer before like that. You don't actually hit the spine, you just hit close enough to give a "shock". The deer acts like it can't run or move its back legs, but after a few seconds, it gets its legs back and takes off.

I shot my doe over her vitals and got little penatration. I hit spine. She fell over right there and got up wobbling falling over a couple of times. We watched her expire 50 yds in front of us.

Here's the video of me getting that doe:

If that was where you hit yours you should be able to find it. Good luck!:)

I am pullin for ya! sounds like it could go eiether way, but it sounds like he was having a hard time. 5 to 6 hours is more than enough time in my opinion. he eiether died shortly after the shot or he is still alive and will be for a long time. I ran into a problem of blood drying and being very hard to track when I waited 6 hours last week. I hope it does not dry on you. Dry maroon blood on brown leaves is a bummer. I would go now if I was in your situation.
