dsharp01
Well only 5 days till the NY gun opener. Been seeing some nice bucks and have got a big 6 pt and a very unusual spike picked out;). The spike has about 10 inch tall spikes, looks like a spike elk, he's quite unique. who else has got there boy picked out? post some picks if you got some, sorry I don't yet. stcif
Guys all I have to say is the rut is on in NY big. I bowhunted yesterday and saw more deer than I usually see in an entire gun season. I used to take the first week of shotgun off so I could gun hunt. This year I was fortunate enough to take the last week of bow and first week of gun. I am learning finally that the last week of bow is the best week to take for deer activity in my opinion. Good luck to all.

Guest ArcheryFool
Yup Im ready, we have 6-8 nice 8 pointers on our property, a couple bigger bucks too, but we are not sure of the point count on them. Hopefully we will be lucky enough to get one.
Adjam5
We are ready in this house. I was up at camp for the last 4 days and the smaller bucks I saw were getting into the rut. Some minor chasing going on and the scrapes have picked up big time. My 14 year old will be sitting with me, and taking advantage of the new NY youth hunter laws! We are in a 3 pt or better area, but that don't apply to youth;), so he could shoot a spike or forkhorn. We have 3 deer in the freezer here from bow season. I got a doe and my son Joe got a button and doe too. I shot my rifles yesterday and we are all set! Good Luck NY!
dbHunterNY
The biggest buck I've seen on my hunting ground was this six pointer I shot during bow season, but I'm sure there's a bigger one out there. The rut hadn't kicked in yet, but now it is and neighboring bucks will be roaming. I've been so pumped up for the rut and gun season that I went out and bought a new Browning A-bolt 30-06 with a walnut stock, stainless barrel, and Nikon scope. It's sited in and I'm ready! I'm hoping it doesn't rain! Good luck to everyone, Dan
Adjam5
I'm pacing the house, with the truck packed and waiting for my sons to come home from school and off we go...The weather forecast says rain all day Saturday in our area, but Sunday we might wake up to snow...which will be the perfect backdrop for hunting. Good Luck again everyone! Hunt safe!
NY_Bowhunter14
good luck to everyone tomorrow, and stay safe!!! weather doesn't look like it is going to cooperate, so be careful getting in and out of those stands!!!
RangerClay
We had a great (and very wet ) first weekend at our camp. Four deer are hanging in the garage. I bagged a huge doe.
Turkeygirl
I had probably one of my least memorable shotgun opening weekends....I wish it was still archery.
Adjam5
Had a good weekend regardless of the weather. My son Joe dropped a spike opening day, and my son AJ held out for horns. I had a doe tag for him if he wanted, but he wanted horns. This is deer #4 for this family this year. Joe wacked 3( 2 with the bow) and I got one with the bow. Our freezer is filled to the brim. What a problem to have huh:D. The rain was wicked Saturday afternoon, we were on a tornado watch in Sullivan cty.
