Randy
What did the blood on the arrow look like? Was it light and bubbly or dark?
backwoods07
Wait til the morning then get out there. You'd be surprised at how the sorroundings change in daylight, especially when you're looking for blood. If it hit him high then you might be looking at a lung hit or a gut shot. Hard to tell really....

tedicast
A few years ago, I did the same thing. I shot at a doe that was closer then I thought. Looked like I shot just over her back. grabbed my bino's to look for my arrow, and there it is in the snow, red from one end to the other. Figured I woudl give her an hour or so. About 20 minutes later I have a deer come from the directio nthe doe ran. Another doe, about 50 yards away. She keeps reaching back to lick herself. Look in the binos, and sure enough it is the same doe. Hit her high, above the spine, just under the skin. I watched her for amost an hour and she seemed unnaffected. Came back about 5 hours later, and followed minute drops of blood for about 500 yards, before losing them, even with snow on the ground. Very possible you did the same thing. Still, you need to get out and look to be sure.
fly
Sounds like the shot was back. You'll probably find him in the morning, but if you tracked him 100 yards be prepared to search another 100 from where you left off. I had a complete pass through once and had bright red blood (no bubbles). The blood trail was great for 100 yards, ok for the second 100, then specked for another 50 and dried up. I searched another 200 yards (circle) from where the blood trail ended and never found that deer. I thought it was a good hit, but thinking back I now think the shot was high and closer to the neck.
