Quota hunt buck

I killed this eight pointer friday morning at the Blanton Creek quota hunt I was drawn for. I had been seeing a lot of sign, but hadn't seen a deer all week until that morning.

I was sitting on the edge of some 15 year old pines that had been thinned. There's a fire break that's just slap covered with scrapes from one end to the other. Deer started moving right after a fog rolled in. About 8:45 a young fork horn came stolling down the fire break and walked right underneath me. A few minutes later a button buck and another deer about his size come through running all around, followed by a good-sized doe being chased by the fork horn and a smaller buck, looked to be a three pointer. Both of 'em grunting the whole time. They ran by me a few times. Thirty minutes later this buck comes strolling through the pines. I saw he had a big body, so I counted four on one side (Harris Co. rule) and let him have it with the .270. He ran about 50 yards and piled up.

It took me close to an hour and a half to gut him and drag him out, slightly up hill most of the way. He weighed 145 field dressed at the check station.
