Cybertech_hound819
oh no i have that feeling deep in my gut. Well last night i decided to go and sit in a area that i had see a bunch of does a week or so ago.Well i get in there get a spot on the ground picked out and set up my seat and set out a thing of goldedn estrus. So im sittin there and having fun and relaxin the i hear a branch snap, and i look over to see a deer walking up the hill. then i see the horns and they wernt huge but he might of gone 120inches. so i let him walk up to about 50 yards. i take the saftey off and settel in and squezze the trigger and BOOM and he hits the ground. i start to reload and he stands up and walks away. i finaly get reloaded and i dont see him anymore. so i wait 30 min and the start to track him. at fisrt the blood was ok kinda iffy. then after about 600 yards i lose blood. so i go back to my dads house and we go back we found blood about anouther 400 yards away then nothing. finaly got to where we could track him in the mud and we ended up going about a mile and a half tracking and never agian found blood. so i went back in there tonight and made a few big circles and nothin no blood just a few tracks. so im thinking that i may have just cut it. but y did he hit the ground like that. and should i try to look again or what?? csualumni21000
Get a dog. If dog cannot locate the deer then it cant be found.

slughunter
Im thinkin that you shot him in the the upper part of the front leg. From my experience it will cause them to drop but then they are able to get up and walk away. It will cause a little bit of blood on impact but after that you wont find any. That deer is most likely going to live for a while but loose the leg. -shane
HoosierDaddy28
Could have been a neck shot as well. That will drop a deer most of the time and there is plenty of room to hit one and it not be fatal.

stcif
Several years ago I shot a four pointer at about 45 yards with my Rem 870 12 gauge. He instantly fell and started thrashing. I thought for sure he was done. He got up after a couple seconds and ran off never to be found again. I simply don't understand how a deer can drop and then get up and run off. The way I see it in order for a deer to drop instantly something solid must be getting hit, like shoulder, spine, head etc.. I also know getting the brisket and neck can do that also but the results are not finding the deer. Good luck.

Guest grayghost03
Neck shot, they drop and bleed, do you remember if he stepped in the blood trail, neck hits usually trail blood in the center of the track, so will some other hits but not right off the bat. Cybertech_hound819
no the blood was off to the side. i think i may have hit him just below the arm pit and in the elbow region. was i didnt understand is he didnt run away he walked. im guessin that if i hit him there he will live as long as the yotes dont get to him what do u think
