brownie65
they told us yesterday they are closing the plant where I work. There goes a $25 an hour job out the window. Supposed to give us 90 days notice before they boot us out the door. Didn't sleep very good last night.

brownie65
We are supposed to get 90 days notice. The plan right now is to run until December & rebrick the kiln & do another run to March. That is the tentative plan. Corporate, the bigshots that own it in Switzerland, have to give us the ok to do this. It could go down anytime but the hope is it will go until December. If it goes down, we could get our 90 day notice at anytime. The Plant Super is hoping we won't get the 90 day notice until January. Bad thing is, there are no jobs around here. I am trying to get some things going but don't know how it will all shake out. Honestly, I am so down in the dumps right now that it is hard to even go to work. We worked all the time. We would work anywhere from 40 to 84 hours a week. Really like my job, what I do & where I work. Now I can't hardly stand it.

ruttinbuc
I know the feeling, Kevin. I got laid off a month ago. It was unexpected and hit like a ton of bricks. Never thought it would happen to me. I have been taking it one day at a time. There is not much out there right now. There is a lot of competition for the good jobs that are available. I might be looking to get some education or training in something when I find something that may be worthwhile. May relocate altogether if need be. Hang in there

brownie65
yes I think it is going to get allot worse. I have been searching online & have applied several places online. I might be pretty interested in one of those jobs before long Tink. Hoping I make it until the end of March at work. This is my last day of vacation, they could give me my 90 day notice tomorrow. Hopefully won't get it until the first of the year.
Adjam5
I'm feeling it too Kevin. I've been out since Oct 3. When the cold weather comes, construction slows to a crawl in NYC. I'm waitin' on a call from the hall...all I can do at this point. Could be worse... I could be out of work when there is nothing to hunt. Are you looking for work in the same field? One door closes another opens. Lets see what the future brings. Good Luck. Edited November 25, 2008 by Adjam5
