wtnhunt
Seems there are a few members who seem to think Obama is a friend to gun owners and there has been some speculation posted in here that makes the assumption that a large percentage of gun owners/hunters supported Obama. Occasionally at dinner time I put the nbc nightly news on, and last night it surprised me to see that they were reporting on gun sales. Can watch the clip here if you wish http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3032619#27686558. The weeks leading up to the election federal background checks for gun sales were up some 13 percent over the numbers from last year, the week after the election number rose to 49 percent above last years number. Pretty obvious reason for the rise in sales, people in my opinion are concerned and trying to get what they can while they can. NBC interviewed a Brady campaign spokesperson in this bit as well, remember here that the Brady campaign endorsed Obama and to the best of my knowledge Obama never repudiated that endorsement, and the person said Obama promised to sign the awb. That goes right along with what they have said before when they claimed that Obama would support a handgun ban as well as banning all semi auto's which also goes right along with Obama's voting record. Think it is safe to say that there are some SMART American gun owner/hunters out there who are concerned and are taking the steps they feel necessary to be prepared for what they think is to come. If it so happens that Obama and the libs turn their backs on or lied to the Brady campaign, which would really surprise me, then those people who went out(panicked) and bought or are buying these guns prematurely have added to their collection or first time gun owner/buyers who added security to themselves/their homes in the process maybe helped put a little money into the economy. Not a bad thing in any way in my opinion.
Texan_Til_I_Die
Let me add my own anecdotal bit of evidence. I had planned to purchase an AR in 308 for some time for hog hunting. I started shopping around last week, and there's not a single one to be had within a 75 mile radius. And my local gun shop said the waiting list was about 4 - 6 months. Gator
I call it being prepared, givin BO's voting history. Like you said William, if it turns out that nothing happens in regard to gun control (fat chance), then those that chose to go out and purchase a new gun were just trying to help the economy
smallmunster
My advice to people looking is buy what you can find now no matter where it is if it is at a price you are willing to pay. Talk to a local ffl dealer and see how much he gets to do a transfer. Most dealers everywhere are out of stock, the ones that are not jacked the prices up, but deals can still be found. You might have to wait a bit though. I have a dealer that will do transfers for $15. That and shipping is a lot less than tax would be usually. I know of a 308 AR10 in Iowa but he wants $1500, more than I will pay. I went to look at a Remington R25 in 308 that I called a guy on the night before and it sold 30 mins before I got there. They wanted $1320 for that. DPMS LR 308's can be found for around $1000 or under, but most are out of stock now. I got in on a group buy of lowers for under $95 each including shipping and all fees, but it will two months or more before they get here. I paid more than that before the panic began. Mach1
I had planned on buying a new gun (.270) before the end of the year but funds haven't allowed it yet. Looks like I need to find some cash quick to make a gun purchase.

m gardner
I got back this past friday from an 8 day hunt and went to Sportsman's Warehouse yesterday to get propane for our next hunt. I stopped by the gun counter as usual and was amazed to see so few handguns. I asked the clerk what was up, were they going out of the business of selling handguns? He laughed and said , "no that's all we have left". Seems all week normal people who would never have wanted a gun had been coming in to buy them and shotguns and mini-14s and ar-15s etc.,etc. and there were few or none left. While I was there there were families and the type of guys you know had spent most of their lives in a cubicle working towards retirement in silent desperation, buying guns for self defense or war. There was no .223, 7.62 russian, 9mm luger or OO buck ammo left at all. From the looks of them I'm staying away from the public ranges until these folks are off the learning curve. It wasn't this bad during the Bill Clinton/Janet Reno years. Decent, honest, geeky folks arming thamselves to the teeth!! Guess everyone's noticed where things are going lately. Not just the far right lunatic fringe. Maybe we aren't the lunatic fringe anymore. My my how things change!!:D:D Mark
morley
I think I'm gonna buy another gun before he takes office. I heard something interesting on the radio the other day, In Michigan Nov. 15 is the opening day of firearm deer season, that puts an estimated 700,000 hunters in the woods on that day, making Michigan hunters the third largest free standing army in the world. Now I don't if this is true but if it is I don't understand how Michigan is a blue state.
csualumni21000
Mags are still getting imported so price will subside a little. Get what you can but it will be a while before legislation is passed.
johnf
I know this isn't a shocker to anyone, but I don't believe the mainstream media have a clue what mainstream America believes.
