NiteRunner
I'm just so darn excited I wanted to tell someone! I haven't been able to get out for the past couple of days, but the snow piled up good last night and gave about 4-6 inches. I opted to not hunt in the morning, but I told myself that if I finished making supper and taking care of the outside dogs, I would go for an evening hunt. So after I got those things squared away it was 4:15. That gave me about an hour to hunt behind the house. I layered on the clothes and took off. I didn't cross any tracks on my way back there and doubted my luck of seeing anything since I haven't for a long while. Anywho, I get up into my stand and get settled. Face mask is up, Arrow is nocked on my bow and it's settled in on my EZ Holder. So I sit and let the cold eat away at me. Not 10 minutes into my sit and I catch movement straight ahead. It's big, brown, and definitely a deer at 100+ yards. He takes a few steps towards me and I catch a glimpse of Antler. I grab my bow. At first I think he's a decent Half Rack that I have seen. As I'm focusing on this buck he then disappears into the briars and I lose him. I tell myself I should glance around and see if anything else has come in. Yep, right there to my left is 2 Does. They didn't stay more than a minute and then slinked away into the swamp. By this time, I am just tickled to death! I didn't expect to see anything! That made my night! BUT IT WASN'T OVER!! Minutes pass and the buck appears again, closer and closer he starts to come. He's not a Half Rack, he's a Perfect 8-Point! Probably 2.5, and around 120's. Exactly what I set my standard at! He starts to head for the swamp, so I grab my grunt tube and make a few calls. He could care less. He flicks his ears to listen, but nothing more. He's now at about 35 yards and checks the tracks of the Does that I had seen. OMG, my heart is going nuts! I started to shake and I had to tell myself to stop, otherwise he'd surely see me up in this tree. This is about as close as he comes and they he starts going away. I grunt hopelessly and he still is not interested. Desperate and with no Bleat call I open my mouth and give my best imitation of Doe. That get's his attention! He swirls around is looking for the source of that sound. I let a few seconds pass and do it again. He's at full attention and looking my way. He stood looking and I let out a couple more soft calls. He takes a few steps my way, but I think without seeing anything he just wasn't convinced. He turned and this time left. After I make sure he's gone, I relax slightly and shake! I'm glad I have a sturdy treestand! The bolts might have come loose! Then 5-minutes later a tiny 6-point follows the Does tracks through. 4 Deer in an hour, loved it! That was too Awesome with the buck! My first time having a shooter buck that close!! I'm going to sit in the same spot tomorrow morning and see if I can catch him going back to bed. Awesome, Awesome!! Sorry it's so long, I just wanted to share!
