Flintlock1776
Start in late Feb or early March. Antlers should be off by then and the snow low or gone so you will find them. Follow trails the deer us. They can pop off anywhere on their walk. Find a pair and you have a real prize. Good luck
Adjam5
I like look at trench dips or creek crossings with briars and hard hack bushes by the crossings. Horns pop off at these spots in late winter. NY woods are hard to hunt for sheds due to the fact of all the leaves that fall on the ground. When you find one be happy. When my son and I were in Texas last march, you could seew a shed from a mile away. Well not really a mile away, but you could see them without having to be on top of them. Spikehorn sheds are the hardest to find. Good Luck.
Turkeygirl
Know where they feed, bed, and travel in the winter and search those spots come late February through March and April. I find most of my sheds in March and April due to snow usually not melting until then. Don't get discouraged if you don't find one right away, you'll put alot of wear on those boots hiking, so pack some water and pack a snack when you go:)
Zambo
Walk, walk, walk, and walk some more. I have gone a couple weeks of looking hard and find nothing. Then one day I'll find four in an hour. There are no tricks or secrets. Just walk where the deer are.
brudaman340
I want to get this set of horns off this particular deer by my house. Its a monster 8 and this is of course if it dont get shot. So, im wondering if its legal in ny to set up horn catchers with pumpkins or apples or mineral licks out to try to get there horns after the season? Turkeygirl
If he's still hanging by your house now, then walk the area come spring and you should find them...Not worth breaking laws over finding some sheds....
brudaman340
the problem with walking the land for me is that 90% of the land around me is not my land. All of the other land is posted and people are usually pretty serious around here about trespassing.
