Illinois59
If you came upon 2 big bucks locked up and one was dead would you shoot the other?
NS whitetail
well, I would say that you would have to. It wouldn't be very ethical to just let the live one die that way. IMO
Tominator
Yep, 'fraid so. If it was a book buck I'd consider donating the antlers to the DNR.
Randy
As much as I wouldn't want to, no need in letting them suffer...
Texan_Til_I_Die
Depends on whether or not I had a tag. Actually, I might not. I've extracted more than one deer from a barbed wire fence, although none were big bucks, and I never felt temped to try to shoot any of them. I would probably try to break the bucks apart first, before I resorted to shooting the one that was still alive. BTW - I'm pretty sure it wouldn't qualify for B&C or P&Y because of the circumstances. Shaun_300
I would, why let the other suffer for God know's how long before it starves to death...
Guest Andrea
I'd shoot.....even if both were alive. Can you imagine how cool of a mount that would make? Besides......we're allowed 2 bucks a day here....
Hoosier Hunter
Definately.
wtnhunt
Depends on the situation, but if it were the case that they were suffering and could not be seperated and it was ok with the game warden then I would have to say yes. SIWhitetailHunter
First and foremost, best situation is a tranquilizer gun to put the one down so that you may free the antlers if you are unable to get close to try and help them out. If that doesn't work, or the DNR doesn't take the time to make something work, see what you can try, if you can't get close enough and still no help from the DNR put the one that's alive down otherwise he's going to suffer. arrow32
I'd shoot the one that was still alive. Not very ethical to let the one suffer and die.
sskybnd
yes i would shot the one still alive, if i had a tag left, if i had two left i tag, both im with andrea on that i think haveing 2 locked together would make a cool mount

[/quote] i dunno if it would be possible to seperate them but i will try to first,,, i know a guy that has a deer farm where he raises deer,, well he has a tranq gun,, could the DNR have these just incase something like this happens?? and just cut the dead deers horns??? just a thought
GWSmith
...What's a book buck? Pope & Young...or...Boone & Crocket..."Record Book" I'd first try to get them apart if there was a safe way to do that. Then if that was successful I'd actually let the buck get away. I would feel compelled to do that because of his physical state which would probably be completely exausted. IMHO there would be nothing but a hollowness to taking that deer in the state of exaustion after he was free. If and when it happens I want it to be "Right"...and not like shooting a Marlin in a bucket. IF I could not get them apart I'd put the buck down more out of compassion for the life then the taking of a trophy. It would'nt be a trophy but a mercy killing. I'd definitely not claim it as such or attempt to boast about the kill in any way. It would be because the inevitable starvation as the only reason. c_lou
As long as it was legal, it would make for a good mount.
pendog
I would have to say i would try to free the one alive, depends on your assets in the field as most people dont have a saw with them. Safety first, if the alive deer risked my health then i would have to shoot it. I would then do a skull mount of the two bucks.
