Guest JW!
Well I am new to this fORUM BUT NEW to the web. I met DoubleA on another forum quite some time ago. And we have bumped into each ohter is several places. Well when I heard he was going to be an hour form me I made sure I could meet him face to face for a chat. So I picked Double A from Cabelas as he was delivered by his host Randy. got to meet and talk to Randy too as we both are Wisconsinites. Then I gave the grand ole southeastern Wisconsin tour to Double A of Holy Hill, most of the Waukesha/Milwaukee area and even dragged him down to big ole Lake Michingan to show him my other love and that is big open water hunting! DoubleA is quite a gentleman and we had a grand time. he even put up with my tag along at the last minute and that was my 2 yr old grandson. So right now Double A is a few hours from home and still int he air. Yep he shot a nice buck. I never whacked one anything close to that many points in all the years I have hunted Wisc and or Mich. And it was a extreme pleasure to meet DoubleA face to face. I have done that with quite a few folks from different forums and have never been disapointed. It is what these things are all about anyhow. Sharing what we haved learned to love and enjoy. JW

doubleA
Well I put out all the fires and caught up on the honey do's for now. Right off the bat I would like to publically like to thank my gracious host, Randy and his family. They made me feel right at home everyday, from the "good morning y'all to the nighty nite's". The bed was comfortable and the meals were always more than we could eat and and plenyty hot. We discussed several different foods nightly and agreed they are sometimes very regional to say the least. I probably put on a few pounds even though Randy and myself had to walk up hill both ways in the snow to get to our hunting location, sometimes twice a day. whewwwwwwwwww;) This was my 1st experience hunting Wisconsin though I have been in colder climates it was nice and chilly. I wanted to see some snow and got my wish to Randy's disgust:D I later learned while hunting the acrage that the snow hurt us due to taking away bedding areas for the deer. The still type of hunting we did I was used to but the deer running by us was odd to me. I have never hunted where the deer were being pushed and most of the time didnt stop. The deer were really skiddish, especially when out in the open, even does and yearlings. As Randy has stated we saw a good number of deer the first day and about 10 minutes into the season an 8pt ran a doe right to the blind and Randy gave me the go ahead to take it. By the time I was able to lock in they had made it to the tall grass and it was hard to get a shot off. I finally had to make a high neck shot because that is all I could see of her. Bang/flop, the 270WSM did the job. The next few days the deer were getting scarce, the bucks we saw the opening day disappeared. We sat each day from daylight to dark and I think the whol week Randy took about a 5 minute nap while on stand. I think on Monday afternoon we had planned on going to a nearby diner to do lunch but around then we had several does bed down in front of us and we didnt want to spook them. Mike, Randy's friend offered to et us some take out and much to our suprise drove up close by and did a 100 yard dash with a pair of piping hot double bacon cheeseburgers along with fries right up to the door of the blind! That was awesome just awesome Mike, thanks a bunch for that, it will be in my memory for ever:):). Later that afternnon they bedded deer arose and I think they knew something was up because they ran directly away from us and didnt look back. Some does came in right at dark thirty and we passed on them. Tuesday I think it was was an ok dayas far as seeing deer, we saw a spike and does in the morning and as the sun was setting yet on another cold day some does decided to visit us. I took one at 112 yards in the neck, its the one on the video and minutes later another one at about 180 yds. I had some time on that one and went for a between the eyes shot but missed. Funny thing is that on the video you can see the doe duck and twist her head at the shot, we called her the Matrix doe. I lowered my shot a bit and put a 140 gr Accubond in the neck, dropping her instantly. At that time deer were just running around trying to figure out which way to run and Randy decided to get one himself and did so with a heart shot at around 180yards also. That day was rewarding, we had been putting in long hours and we finally had something to show for it. Wensday came around and Randy had to work at the local social club ;) His good friend Mike let me hunt his stand which was on 40 acres which was good in the mornings for a route the deer used after feeding at night back to beeding areas. Sure enough at 9 am I just happened to look behind me and saw a buck chasing some does, it happened so quickly I more or less shot as a reflex when the buck came into the crosshairs. At 150 yards, the buck dropped in his tracks into the tall grass and disappeared. Mike had wanted to leave that day at 10 am so it all worked out as far as timing goes. We went back into town and waited for Randy to get home from the country club he works at. Later on that day Randy, his son and myself went back out to the hunting property to get some photos. Funny thing is that both of our cameras were not wanting to work in the cold for some reason. We did manage a few though. Later that evening we took all the deer to the processor for butchering. Thursday rolled around and we were in the stand with plenty of time before daylight. We saw a few does in the am and in the early afternoon and a 8pt buck showed up just before dark that was what I caller a "tweener". It wasnt huge but not small either. Randy gave me the go ahead to shoot but in my mind I had already accomplished more than I expected. Taking another buck wasnt needed to make the trip a succesful one. Funny how the mind wanders of things past and present. It would be my last day of hunting with Randy and I was honest with him on how it was the experience and not the kill that matters with me. I would have been perfectly happy just seeing the country. Randy had a dream earlier in the week about a big buck and there were a few thoughts of them in my feeble mind at times but all in all I had a great time and will have memories etched into my brain about things we were able to share. Sharing, yeah that's what it's all about. As much as we would like to think we see and know all and everything we find out with others that sharing stories and time together we can step out of the box and learn things. It was really neat to swap tales and just different things about life in general and find out there are likes and dislikes. Some things are different here in Texas and somethings are different in Wisconsin but I can assure all of you that Randy and I have a bond, a bond of the love of the outdoors and hunting the wary whitetail. Again, I can not stress enough the wonderful time I had. The warmness I felt around Randy's home and family was truly delightful. I told Randy that I am not exactly a deer magnet, which by the way was true again and also not a "kid" magnet which turned out not to be true with the Autum and Avery. They took a liking to me for some reason! For Mrs Randy, thanks a bunch for your wonderful meals and sharing of some recipes. Mike, you are the man. I know there is a closeness and bond that Randy and you share that make being around y'all a blast. You too get props for the deliscious fish fry we shared the first night. Funny thing is I feel like I am at an awards ceremony "thanking" people but it's sometimes hard for me to remember things so I appoligize if I have left anything or anyone out. Randy, there is always some turkey, hogs, some flying and sausage awaiting you here my friend, till we meet again........... ChArLiE

Randy
I guess I can post the other video now eh Charlie? I had a pretty good day Sunday, I whacked a doe by the big oak, one in the opening in the grass, and one on the edge of the foodplot along the woods. Mikes girlfriend sat in the afternoon with me and shot one along the pines to the right at about 100 yards.

doubleA
what a gentleman. he fired a warning shot... lol and welcome to the forums, jw Yes, I forgot to mention JW in my post. I finally had the chance to meet him FTF after chatting for years and enjoyed the few hours we had to share. He showed me around the New Berlin/Milwaukee area and took me right to the shore of Lake Michigan and we were able to see a few ducks close up. Not being a waterfowl guru I think we saw a few green winged speckled bellied gadwalls and a minitature drake spoonbilled mallard. Boy! I need to hang around Randy and JW more to learn about them. He had his 2 yr old grandson Bryant with him and I swear he did not even come as close to a wimper while we were together, what a great kid. Hopefully I will see him again in the turkey woods someday. Steve, I was sweating bullets (pun intended) with the miss, something I have never done before! We had packed in light that day and I only had 4 rounds of ammo so it left me with only one cartouche for a bigfoot sighting.
