Norm Sauceman
Does anyone here have any state on bucks without brow tines? Was taking with someone today who has shot 4 bucks (between three hunters) on the same farm. An 8, a 7,a 6 and a 3 point. All of them had NO brow tines. At what age should you be able to tell that a buck will have brow tines? Is it No brow tines, never brow tines except for spikes?? What do you think? Leo
If the buck is at least 3 1/2 years old, if he has no brow tines it's an awful good bet he never will. Anything can happen, I understand, but after that they aren't likely to be real big if they actually do show up.
Ambuscher
Sounds like a gene pool thing, with all of them coming from the same area.

brownie65
I see a few bucks every year without brow tines. Some with little bitty short brow tines. I agree with the others that it sounds like a genetic thing on that farm. I have seen some very nice bucks that are real shooters that haven't had any brow tines. Strut10
Bucks without brow tines have been becoming more and more common since the Gary Alt plan took effect here in PA. Generally, if a deer has no broews, it won't be legal due to minimum point restriction so it does not get shot. Then it goes and spreads its "no brow tine genes" and the snowball gets bigger. Adjam5
I think the no brow thing is a genetic thing. I have found muley sheds in West Texas with brows and they are notorious for not having any. Ranch owner said the muley around there have brows. Weird. But as Strut said, in parts of PA and in our area in NY's 3H region, bucks with no brows get passed over on because of the 3 on one side rule and THEY become your breeder bucks passing on those junky genes:(. Spread might be a better gauge than points.
