The big day is here again

Our 6 month long lobster season opens again tomorow morning at 6 am. These last couple of days have been rotten trying to get things ready, but we are prepared.

The stomach is in knots, the nerves are frazzeled......... the lobster industry is our big money maker. With the way the US economy has been lately, the talk on price has been depressing........... a big part of the catch is exported to the US.

375 traps loaded and ready to hit the ocean floor.

If you look at this pic, you will see how much standing room a guy has until he gets the first few strings of traps over.

I know you won't see this until after dumping day is over...but PLEASE, please, please, be extra careful! I'm gonna be praying my head off tomorrow for everyone up there. Even though I've known Justin for a few years now, I'm more nervous this year than any of the other years. It's almost 3am and I'm not in bed yet. I'm not a bit tired or anything, my stomach has hurt most of the night, and I could almost throw up. After being out on the boat with Justin and seeing how things are on a regular day really opened my eyes to how dangerous it is. People think they know by watching it on TV, but it's different when you're actually there to see it.

I'm hoping the wind dies down at least SOME because it is going to be ultra dangerous if it doesn't and they actually let you guys go out. *sigh* Anyone who reads this, please say a prayer for all the guys going out tomorrow! :(

... People think they know by watching it on TV, but it's different when you're actually there to see it...

I remember explaining to a group of engineers, in Calgary, what the Atlantic can churn up...

"Imagine a ship, a coupl'a football fields long, sailing UP one side of a wave, OVER the top, and DOWN the other..."

The boys will be fine, Alisha...but a little bit of prayer never hurts either;).

Well everyone, I made it home safe. All 375 of our lobster traps are on the ocean floor ( filling up I hope  )

No mishaps for us today, however there was one boat that sank today that I know of, the crew were all rescued.

Hats of to the Coast Guard, they have planes flying all day on the look out and many ships on the water in case of problems that may happen.

I'll be up at 2 am and heading out to haul the gear hoping and praying for a big catch ( and a good price ;) )
