KirkV
Well I have had a rough seeason the past couple of years at our spot with reference to mature 4 1/2 year old bucks and older. I had my suspicions but waited, we have new neighbors to the property and I stopped by to see what they did over the 3 day shotgun harvest. I found they had killed 5 bucks none of them over 2 1/2 years old during this season and the owner shot 2 bucks during bow and only got one of them. The other property has a bunch of doctors and family that hunts it and they shot 2 smaller bucks but did manage 2 nice ones too. Sure makes it hard to pass 140 class deer and have the neighbors shoot them! I know there is not much you can do about it but dang man QDM sure gets hard when nobody will play along! I probably passed 40 deer does included to look for a nice 150 class buck. I bumped one in it's bed today but could not get a good enough shot when he was escaping so I let him go. We will have the second shot gun season in a couple of weeks and I might be able to run into him again then. Sorry for the gripin but I just need to vent. Illinois59
I feel your pain. Last year we passed up lots of young bucks only to find out that the neighbors killed over one dozen bucks. Still, there are many big boys out there. Sometimes i think that it helps if they take small bucks because the big boys are still walking. ccwhitey
Had a hard year myself this year with only seeing under 15 deer for the whole hunting season including the only 2 deer that I saw this whole shot gun season. We also let the small ones walk to try to kill atleast 4.5 if we can help it. All I can say is hang in there and keep at it cause you can't kill one watching tv;) Good luck for the rest of the yr cc
stevebeilgard
there will always be game hogs out there, and those that will shoot anything that walks. hard to be a good manager with these types around.
ruttinbuc
Just can't get that mentality out of peoples heads. We have the same situation here. Let em' walk and they get shot next door. There are guys that will drive the living daylights out of the deer until everything with a piece of bone on their head are shot. Frustrating for sure. Adjam5
I hear ya Kirk. Our land is next to a hunting camp which shoots anything we let go by. I have always had a "NO spikes rule", they shoot them all:( I feel ya pain. I guess when you finally connect, it will be that much sweeter. Good Luck and hunt safe. Guest Bigbuckor2
I feel your pain, but as we qdm's all know you can't shoot a big deer, if your taking little deer. I know it's hard when you know people are taking little deer and your not. Don't give up hope though. Just be encouraged that you are going to take a deer someday the right way. I promise when you take a mature buck the rewards stick with you along time and you will have more satisfaction because you did it the right way. Keep your chin up, and know that you are respected by all QDM's all over this great land. Good Luck the rest of the way from a QDM in Texas. Smitteken
Thats the story of my life. I pass up small bucks all year and have been for the last 5 years. The guys on the neighboring property shoot whatever they want. And the past two years they've killed two deer between 140-150 class. I know they're deer I've passed in previous years but they make the comment "See, it doesn't matter if you shoot all the little ones, we still kill nice bucks." This burns me knowing I'm the one doing the work for them.
