Guest RugerReflex
I've received permission to hunt a parcel of land about 800 acres in size...it had a lot of timber cut off of it early this year. I've only got a couple of weeks to hunt it and maybe only one or two days a week to do it...what should my priorities be in finding good stand placement? I've already gotten some good aerial photos and am familiar with the layout...just not deer movement. We are also in south GA...not the coldest hunting seasons...usually hot...and there aren't any water sources on the property. Advice for short term hunting??? stevebeilgard
first, welcome to the forums. i don't like the part about no water source. deer need food, water, and cover... and in that order. the trees cut tell me that the cover is short. what are the crops? do you see any trails or tracks? can you post the airial photo of the property? how close is the nearest water? Guest RugerReflex
I will try and get a pic of the property on here soon...there is some "swampish" areas if you want to call it that on the southern end of the property...but it just depends...hit or miss on how much water is actually there. I've only been able to get around a little so far...i have found tracks but nothing substantial like a well used trail yet. There is still quite a bit of cover...and you can find random tracks all over. I haven't been able to get into the woods yet...just ridin the roads and around the clear cuts. Hoping to go back out there this evening and scout some more. Thanks! There are a lot of acorns throughout the property...so I'm hoping to get into the cover and find an acorn hammock...hopefully near what water may or may not be there. Guest RugerReflex
Well...in case anyone is keeping up with this thread...lol...I finally found a small cypress pond with lots of sign around (trails, tracks, rubs) So, I set a stand up with plenty of gun or bow opportunities. The water is about 30-40 yards away for a nice bow shot...or I could shoot a rifle as far as about 800 yards in one direction. I'm leaving it a lone for a couple of days...will probable try to hunt it Friday
