hoosierhunter
Just a thought. I go to pick up my new hunting buddy Tuesday. He's a chocolate lab that I'm naming Hemi. I've been doing a lot of research regardling training and things like that. I noticed that there is nowhere on the forum dedicated directly to dog training/advice/talk/general information..... Just wanted to see if other peple might find this useful. I'd be willing to help keep the room up and running. I just really would like to chat with people about techniques they used and just general dog information. Heck I'm not even sure who to get in contact with this about but I wanted to see what others throught...
birdhunter39
congrats on the new hunting partner , we trained our own for the most part , they won't win any field trials or anything , but it's a start for us , they're going to school next year , for far better training then what we can offer . by the way where did you get your dog from ?? hoosierhunter
He's coming from Countryside Retrievers in Watertown Wisc. Mainly I will be waterfowl hunting with him although I would like to field work him a bit too. His mom and dad don't have hunt titles, but his bloodline does. It was amazing how hard it was to find a chocolate lab breeder that works with hunting dogs and not for show. Same for me I don't want him to win any field trials, but I want him to be competent in the field and not a "wild man." Believe me he will spend his time in the house when he isn't hunting to, he's just as much my buddy as my hunting buddy. I know that most people that hardcore hunt with dogs would shoot me for that, but I want a buddy just as much as a hunter:D
Tominator
I noticed that there is nowhere on the forum dedicated directly to dog training/advice/talk/general information..... This has been typically handled in the small game room, or waterfowl room.
Ladybird
congrats on your new hunting buddy, first advice I have to give you is make sure you have plenty of chew toys they LOVE to chew. Also lots of patience,I have 2 labs both came from breeders,1 my female lab dosen't have a hunting back ground but she dose great in the field,my male both parents are field champs, they are both black.I trained them myself I started useing bumpers and worked my way up to pheasant dummies with sent drops.I read a lot and watched a lot of videos.I plan on taking them to school next year for more advance training. If you want to ask me for any advice I'll be glad to give it to you.just e-mail me Goodluck
