Tominator
How many times has your ML not gone off due to condensated powder? I loaded my Encore with 2 Pyrodex pellets Saturday morning for Ohio's youth hunt. Saturday was cold, morning at 18 degrees, high of 30 in the day. Sunday afternnon rolled around and I pulled the gun out of it's sleeve and noticed a lot of condensation on the scope and around the breech area. When I opened the gun to insert the primer I noticed some condensation around the firing pin. The breech plug was dry. The gun stayed in my truck the entire time. Kind of wondered as my son and I walked to our set up if the gun would go off if a shot presented itself. As luck would have it, he did not get the opportunity to shoot. I'm going to fire the gun tonight when I get home. Any bets as to whether it will go off or not?
EKYhunter
I've owned Knight and TC muzzleloaders. I've used pellets as well as loose pyrodex and I've never had one to fail firing when needed.
wtnhunt
With the inline never Chris, and yes I am still using the no. 11 hot remington caps. My old side lock I had slow or delayed ignition several times in hunting situations. Bet yours goes off just fine.
Tominator
Decided not to shoot last night. Weather was downright ugly, windy, blowing misty rain crap. And yes, that was the official weather report. Today isn't much better, but if it's not raining, I'm going to shoot it tonight.
Chrud
I'm interested to hear how it turns out. Not sure if tape over the muzzle would help reduce condensation in the barrel or not. I was thinking about something similar to this the other day. My brother built an insulated, heated tower for gun hunting. He's had problems with his gun not going off after cleaning it (not a very good job of drying the barrel I guess). I wonder what kind of effects a 50-60 degree tower would have on a muzzleloader brought in from 10 degrees.
Tominator
Another day of blowing precipitation, wet snow this time. It looks to be sunny today, so after my wife gets done with work I'm going to pop it off.
Hoosierbuck
I have hunted all day in a downpour, hunted in heavy snow, subjected the rifle to temperature changes, and never have had a misfire with an inline. Just the other day I had a misfire with the Hawken, but it was a second shot, and I could see fouling residue on the nipple. Another cap and she went off. Tominator
It went off. And it was dead on too.
Tim Andrus
Chris when the weather is bad I put saran wrap over my barrell end with a rubber band and leave it in my truck. never had a problem might want to try that
Tominator
Chris when the weather is bad I put saran wrap over my barrell end with a rubber band and leave it in my truck. never had a problem might want to try that Thanks Tim, I'll keep that in mind. I was just surprised how much condensation had built up over night. I guess the inside temp of the truck got too warm that day.
