muggs
The San Diego Chargers firing Marty Schottenhiemer (spelling??) was a great move. Definitely the right move. Edited November 24, 2008 by muggs
MCH
Oh yeah! Great move. He couldn't get them to the championship game. Now they can't get to the playoffs.
Tominator
Mart can't win the big game. Gags everytime, proven everytime. Caveat there is, the clown they have now gags everytime too, but worse than Mart so at least Norv saves the fans the disappointment of getting to the playoffs only to lose, because he rarely gets there. Marty led them to a 14-2 record his last year in SD- I think they're 5-6 now. One less dropped INT and they go to the Super Bowl. Not Marty's fault, he doesn't play cornerback. Sometimes people need to realize what they have and appreciate it. They ran him out of San Diego on a rail. Pretty stupid.
craig mack
Marty was garbage!!!! They screwed up on their choice of a replacement but that doesnt change the fact that Marty cant win a big game.
muggs
Dude has a .613 winning percentage, is 74 games over .500 for his career, has 8 Division Championships and the Chargers went from a 14-2 team to a 5-6 team that can't win any close game immediately after he left. Doesn't sound like garbage to me. John Elway, Tom Brady, and Peyton Manning had more to do with his inability to make it to the Super Bowl than whatever reason the media spins on him. It's hard for me to knock a guy that had every team he coached in a Conference Championship game in the position to beat three HOF QBs only to have his team let him down. Anyway, I'll take a guy that gets me to the playoffs over a guy who can't coach a team into the playoffs any day. btw- the 0-11 Lions could use him. He would be an up grade compared to any Lions coach ever!!!! But he is still the guy that will almost get you there. Just think in a perfect world you could have him coaching your Browns with Brady Quinn starting at QB!!!!! Not sure if you could fit Fausto in there but that would be like heaven for you. Speaking of Fausto, ya boy Beckett didn't have a good year at all. Fausto will be dominate this year. He was set off by a hip injury. I'm not even a huge Marty fan, but he's a good coach, and you don't run a franchise by firing a 14-2 coach. btw- the Chargers are 4-7 now, I was giving them too much credit. And to think because a guy has lost three conference title games to three HOF QBs is due to the fact that "he's the guy that can almost get you there" is just silly man. And I'm really struggling with the logic that a 4-7 coach is better than "a guy that can almost get you there" anyways. Just because something has happen, doesn't mean it's always going to happen. That's ESPN thinking and they're telling you to think with them.
buckbuster11
You get rid of the biggest gagger in the history of the NFL and hire the 2nd biggest gagger ever isn't going to get you anywhere. Getting rid of Drew Brees and the best blocking fullback in the league didn't help either.
MCH
It also didn't help that they didn't pull the trigger on a Turner trade when they had a chance. They could've at least gotten a 1st and 3rd for him.

They could've at least gotten a 1st and 3rd for him. Very true, another bad move for that GM. 1.) Dumping Brees 2.) Dumping Marty 3.) Not trading Turner when they had more than enough chances. The GM should have been the one getting dealt. Heck, take it a step further, they probably could have dealt Tomlinson and really got some high draft picks and then just plugged in Turner with Sproles as their #2. Tominator
Remember, the only thing Chris is basing his statement on is what Marty's team did against the Broncos back in the mid-late 80's in back-to-back AFC championship games..... Wrong again DB. I base my statement on the FACT that Mart has never won the big game, let alone get to the big game. And muggs, you can never blame a game on one play, it's the entire Mart philosophy that wins the games that don't count and gags in the games that do count. MCH
GM definitely would've lost his job if he would've traded LT.:D
muggs
GM definitely would've lost his job if he would've traded LT.:D At this point in their careers, who would you rather have, LT or Burner Turner?
MCH
At this point in their careers, who would you rather have, LT or Burner Turner? Let's just say that I would've have bet my job that Turner would have 1,000 yards by now.
muggs
Let's just say that I would've have bet my job that Turner would have 1,000 yards by now. Good point, but if you saw him every day in practice as well as every game he had played in his pro career you'd probably feel better on the gamble. A lot of miles on LT too and he would have brought you a King's ransom in a trade.

muggs
I dont think anyone here has said that Norv is better. I'm talking about in Detoliet. You know you'd take him there. btw- I feel bad for Rob Marinelli...seems like a stand up cat.
craig mack
DETROIT will pretty much hire anyone to coach their team. As far as Marinelli goes, he is not a head coach, he should go back to coaching the D-Line or O-Line (which ever he was coaching before). The only thing I feel bad about (regarding Marinelli) is the fact that the guy walks like he has one bad knee and a piano on his back.
