preacherman
Hey guys.......I have been looking at a Ol'man Grand Ol'man Double XX climber at Natchez Shooters Supply. They have it listed for $129.99 I was wondering if anyone had the specs on these stands and also if you thought that this was a pretty good climber. It is a good price. stcif
I have a Grand Ol Man which is about 9 years old or so. Don't use it much. It is very comfortable, but very heavy and has a weight capacity of 400 pounds. That is why I bought it because of the capacity. I only weight 200 but am not too crazy about climbing stands so I went with a real heavy duty one. It is heavy to the point where it is hard to carry it too far. HUNTINGMAN
Ole man is what I had before I bought my lone wolf,I loved it.It was simple to set up and climbed well. The only reason I got rid of it was because I gained some weight and it only had a weight limit of 250#,I bought the lone wolf because it has a 350# limit.Ole man stands that have the larger weight limit weigh to much and the lone wolf is light. That is a good price and if you get one you should be happy with it. Illinois59
They build good stands, however i looked it up and it appears to have a pin recall. Check it out... http://tmastands.com/recalls.php
tallone
I have two ol man grand visions and a couple of summits and I'd never part with my ol man, the grand is the quietest and most comfortable stand I've ever used. I'm a pretty big boy at 6'6"
brad dryden
I have one it came with the gun rest and all that. Any ways I feel very safe in this stand and love it I like it 10 times better then the summit a had. They did have a recall several years ago but that kinda stuff happens with any thing. Mine is made of metal which I am pretty sure they still are and they are a little heavy. I dont think you will regreat it unless you are walking a long way to a spot. Flintlock1776
They had a pin recall. I wrote to them and they sent me free replacements. I forget the modle I have (made in Ireland of all places!) but I like it. It packs a lot lfatter than my API climbers. I more into groundblinds and ladder stands now but I will take it on my Alabama hunting trio next week. They are a good stand.
johnf
I went hunting last weekend on some friends land and used one that was already on a tree. It was very comfortable, but as I was descending the tree the bottom slipped on me several times and even lost it once. The guy who set the stand up was obviously a bit taller than me and I just barely got my feet to it. Being stuck 16' up would have really sucked . That's never happened to me in my summit and I'll never use another ol man.

HUNTINGMAN
I read in another forum that ol man stands are made by a different company than they were in the past and that the quality has gone down the drain and that they are a big peice of junk now.I cant agree or disagree for it has been about 7 years since I had mine. rhine16
Scott, I've had my Ol Man for 5 or 6 years now. I do 80% of my hunting out of it. Light and easy to setup. The mesh seats are very comfortable IMO. However, my dad and Uncle both have a Gorilla. As mentioned above, Ol man was bought out, that company was called Gorilla. Those stands are a good bit heavier and are much harder to set up in my opinion. The seats are too tight and very uncomfortable. My folks bought my brother a new Ol Man last year. From my understanding, Ol man bought Gorilla back out. The one he has is made out of some heavier metal for sure and is harder to get up and down the tree. Setup is actually better on this version than any in my opinion. They may have bought him a cheaper version, as he doesn't hunt but twenty or thirty times a year. It's very likely that they did and there is a much better model out there. I wouldn't be afraid of buying one at all Scott.
