Guest Primetime/IL
I was just wandering how you taxidermist prep the antlers before going on the form? I know most of all the racks have blood on them to begin with. Is there a type of oil you use over the rack or do you use some kind of method to clean it? RTF
Are we talking about the skull cap ? Or the antlers themselves ? For the antlers I just use windex or 409. The skull cap gets nothing done to it as long as all the meat and matter was removed beforehand. I allow all my racks to dry out a bit before mounting. I also apply preservative to the skull cap after removal from skull.
Guest Primetime/IL
Im talking about antlers going for a full shoulder mount. Do you clean all the dirt off them or only areas need to be cleaned ie blood spots? windex or 409 and a rag?
Zambo
I just clean the blood off with windex and a soft rag. I am very careful not to remove any bark, dirt or other organics that the deer had gathered in his rack. This gives him character and is part of the story of this deer. RTF
Blood for sure and the dirt. Windex or 409 gets the job done. I also wax some of my antlers for a nice shine.
