mcardery2k
Red & Maxine Hamrick from Newberg WV were squirrel hunting and came up with a black squirrel with red tail and gray back. They were hunting in Preston Co. and I have never seen anything like this. Ravin R10 man
yup, first thing I thought was a fox squirrel..but they dont show the ears very well..could be just a cross between a gray and a black

Rem308
wow...I've never seen one like that...my best guess would be a fox squirrel, I shot one a few years ago that had black legs. Just another one of WV's Wild and Wonderful Critters.

Jeramie
FYI..... Melanistic = dark pigmentation of the skin, hair, fur, or feathers in a human being, animal, or plant, resulting from the presence of melanin

Turkeygirl
I agree...looks like a Fox squirrel....way to big for a grey squirrel. Wish we had some fox squirrels around here...
Jeramie
Speaking of that! This weekend I saw a full black fox squirrel! His tail and everything was black. If I didnt have the .243 I would have shot him. However, Im heading back to his neck of the woods after deer season. I would love to have him mounted.
