buckshot_09
so here's the situation, my cousin shot at a buck this evening, wasn't too sure of placement (pretty much because he was too excited, so he said) he definitely heard a loud swack, which is common with mechanicals. we took up track about an hour, hour and a half, and immediately found blood on ground and spraying on trees to the left...we found his arrow, and 8inches of it broke off, and soon after a couple beds full of blood...i'm guessing we might've pushed him, unfortunately, but we've got good snow up here so it won't be a problem taking up the track again...so theory is, he hit one lung or maybe shouldery blade? anybody have any experience with this kind of situation, help would be greatly appreciated Ryan Edited November 28, 2008 by buckshot_09
Tominator
If he hit shoulder blade, that deer is dead somewhere, but from your description, I'd say it's a paunch or liver hit. Did you notice a foul smell or stomach contents in the pools of blood, or on the arrow?
Zambo
If he tried to bed then he is hit good and hurting. You will find him. If it is a non fatal hit they generally don't bed so soon and can walk a mile before they may bed down. Of coarse every deer is different and it all depends on what was hit. Good luck. buckshot_09
well, we looked for him again this morning, jumped him again maybe 50yds from where we stopped last night, still bleeding. i had to go to school, but my cousin tracked for miles. and yeah, i smelled the blood, no gut shot...judging by the position of the blood in the bed, it was pretty forward, maybe even brisket, i don't know anymore...they sure are tough animals though...thanks for the help guys. fly
They are tough! And with their hormones high this time of year they are even tougher. Sounds like you didn't get him. Are you still tracking?
