I am going to try to hunt some family land in Vermilion county Illinois next year. I live in TN and I am going to try to aply for a bow tag. First, what are the chances of me getting a tag the first year that I aply? Second, what part of the year is the best time to be in the woods with a bow. I am going to try to make two different trips. Let me know your opinion and any other advice that you wish to share. I am really exited about going. I have been wanting to hunt this place for 6 years now but I have not had the time or money. It is a farm with woods. Seems to be a pretty good place. Let me know your thoughts about Vermilion county. Thanks for your time.

Go to the Illinois DNR website and check the non-resident archery tag date, it is usually in early june. On the day they go on sale you can purchase your tag directly online, there is no drawing. The tag presently cost $400 and you also need to purchase a hunting license and a habitat stamp. The total will run you around $450.

I have hunted Champaign and Vermillion counties for the last 21 years. I always hunt for 6 days and usually start around the 7th of November. I hope this helps.

have you had good luck in that area? Where abouts are you in FL? I am from Okeechobee FL, but now live in TN. I was thinking that I read on DNR that the first 25000 go to out fitters and someting about being drawn for the rest of the tags. I did read about the licence and the stamp. I might be mistaken the drawing for gun. Thanks for the reply.

You can get a bow tag no problem.

Gun tag is a lottery. Not sure of the actual stats?

Anywhere in IL is good.

Some places are excellent.

The best known areas tend to be in counties directly West of you.

If you go with archery I'd suggest grouping the days around November 6th.

If you go gun, well then the weekends before and after Thanksgiving since that's when they are.
