Guest madabouthuntin
I am normally in the Bow area. This is the first year I have had land I am able to Gun hunt on. I took an extra day off of work this week. I had Thursday and Friday off for Thanksgiving, but I took Wed. off to be able to get another day of hunting in. I must say it was not a wasted day of Vacation. My nephew shot a spike (his first buck ever) and he also hit a 9 pointer. He said he hit him high. It went down and laid there for a while. He then got up and walked off. He didn't leave much of a blood trail. We trailed him for about 2 hours. He kept heading to the road and his blood trail just stopped! The last spot of blood was about the size of the head of a fine point pen. He has shot plenty of does, but the bucks have eluded him since he started hunting. Well, I heard him shoot the spike and then a little while later the 9 pointer. I radioed him to see what he got. Shortly after this I heard a little noise. I looked up to my left and saw movement coming to me. That's when I say horns sticking out past his ears. He came in straight to me. This being the biggest deer I have had a chance to take I didn't waste any time. He was angled towards me. I set the cross hairs on him and let it rip. He took off running right at me, turned right and ran about 5 yards to my left. I had thrown another shell into the gun and was following him as he ran. He stopped about 10 to 15 yards to my left and behind me and just stood there. I didn't see any blood or anything. I thought I had missed him some how, so I pulled the trigger again. This time he ran about 15 yards and down he went. He was close enough both times I shot that I couldn't have taken him with a bow. What a RUSH!!! He is a big bodied deer. I know he is not the biggest deer on this property and I plan on seeing if I can find his Daddy or Bigger Brother! Here is a couple of pics taken after I brought him back home to clean and quarter.
