KirkV
Well I hit my ridge stand location this morning with the ol TC Pro Hunter trying to intercept a big buck moving back into the spoil piles from the fields. I sat there from 6:00 to 9:00 this morning in 12 degrees and like to froze my toes off lol. But the upside was the deer were using it like a highway. I watched 25 deer come by me and saw around 30 turkey in the field below me as well. I saw small 2 and 3 size groups of does and saw groups as big as 9 together. I saw one group of 5 bucks parade by less than 15 feet from the base of my tree. Unfortunately the oldest was a 2 1/2 year old. I saw one fair 110 class buck kind of work a scrape on the way through. The snow was sooooo crunchy I could hear them coming for 100 yards and see them that distance through the trees as well. So it made for a entertaining but cold morning. It is way to noisy to push the spoils like I would like to when it is this cold so I may have to wait a day or two for that. I know there is at least one mature buck in there but I don't want to blow him into the neighbors property, I want him to not know I am coming. I may try a different stand location tonight and try to catch them coming out of the spoils to the food in another location. This big buck hunting wears on a guy:eek: Kirk
Bowtech_archer07
Hey man, hunting in general wears on a guy. I can't say I'm big buck hunting cause I have yet to see a big buck on the hoof:eek: Sounds like you had an awesome morning. I can't make it home from school until late tonight, as I have a social event for a group i'm in at 7. I'm heading home straight after that to go hunting all weekend however. Good luck to you and everyone else for the rest of the weekend!
Tominator
What the heck is a spoil?
ruttinbuc
A spoil is a waste dump near a strip mine. Most of the time there is a water filled pit with the little hills of waste surrounding it. I hunted the spoils at a place in Missouri where they were all grown over...Wow, the sign was incredible. Tough to hunt the first time in. Never got back. Edited December 5, 2008 by ruttinbuc
