Well as I eluded to a couple of weeks back, I added a 300 Rem. Ultra Mag to my arsenal. Stainless barrel with a synthetic stock. Got a bunch of holes in the end of the barrel for some reason, too. Now I just need to add something to look through and it will be ready.

I bought the above from an individual on line and had it shipped to the ffl at the local pawn shop. Of course I had to look around a little while I was in there and found a Winchester 7mm Mag with a Simmons 4x12 scope on it for $325. So it came home with me also.

Cool addition.

I've got those holes in the end of the barrel on my 7 mag too. The best part about that, is being able to watch the round impact the target through the scope. It's also nice if you need to loan the gun to a kid or someone who might be intimidated by the recoil. I let a 10 year old shoot mine the other day and he really liked it. Told his dad that he wanted to trade in his 243 for a 7 mag.

If your Win 7mm mag shoots anything like my and my sons 7mms you gonna be a happy camper ah er shooter. Our 7mms will handle most of the 7mm rounds from 120 to 160 gr offerings. Man those 160 gr nosler partitions are less than moa at just about any yardage I shot them. That partition bullet does a great job on anything up to and including an elk size critter. 7mms have always had a good reputation for accuracy.

  • 2 weeks later...

Finally had a chance to take the 7mm mag to the range. Had a variety of ammo to work with, so I started out with Winchester 140 gr Ballistic Silvertips and had about a 3 shot 5 inch group. Switched to Federal Premium 150 gr. Nosler Ballistic tip and had about a 3/4" group that was 2 inches high and 1 inch left of the bullseye.

After that, I tried a Winchester 140 gr Ballistic Silvertip and that group was similar to the 150 gr Winchesters B.S. The last grouping was with Remington 150 Gr. Premier Scirocco Bonded and it was about a 3 inch group, so I guess we will be sticking to the Federal ammo for this rifle.
