last 1/2 hour fall turkey

Well I did it once more. This spring I got my second spring turkey in the last 1/2 hour of the season

Today was the last day of fall turkey here in Iowa. In the fall I tend to be a "meat hunter". I knew where 30 turkeys were, however, everytime I tried to sneak into the area they would see me and out-smart me. Today I get there at 3:30 and it is 20 degrees and wind from the south at 20 MPH. As I start walking in I see the group in the cornfield to the north (they are usually to the south) at 100 yards. I quick duck down and procede to cut them off without them seeing me. After calling and about 20 minutes and thinking they had scrammed I get up from behind the fence row and see two feeding towards me at 60 yards (the other 28+ following behind). I get set and when they walk by at 30 yards I shoot. One drops and the rest fly and two nice toms land 10 yards away. I only have on license!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They then see me and fly. With 1/2 hour left in the season.

As luck would have it I bet I shot the smallest in the group. The lead hen had picked me out as I sat behind the fence row and was being a little nervous so I wasn't going to wait. Secondly, They were so grouped up, if I shot at the other I would have downed 3 - 5 with one shot so I picked the lone one. Good eatin!!!

CAN YOU TELL IT WAS COLD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
