Turkeygirl
Well it's the last weekend of gun season here in the souther tier of NY. Andy and I still have our buck tags so we are going to do some 2 person drives on the little sections and leave the swamp and bigger woods for this evening to just sit in our stands, since as far as we know, no one has been hunting or pressuring the deer this week. Temps are very cold, those deer should beh ungry so maybe we can get natural movement tonight. Anyone else in NY, or not in NY still trying to fill a tag? Good luck and be safe everyone! Doc
I have shut down my season. I got all the venison I need, and the snow conditions have completely messed up any thoughts of still-hunting. We got a substantial crust layer trapped in the snow that is impossible to walk through without sounding like a herd of buffalo. Sitting is out because there is nobody in the woods to move the deer, and the deer have committed to a nocturnal pattern. So rather than stomping around the woods pushing next year's potential archery season deer to other hunters, I have just decided to pack it in. I've been working it pretty hard anyway and have not missed very many days since bowseason opened. Doc

Adjam5
Hey Ruth! Joe and I went out stomping the Catskill woods this Saturday with success. We did a few of those 2 person drives you have spoke of. The area we hunt, 3H; takes you 3 years to get a DMP tag. So Joe and I both got a 3H tag this year(lucky us), and we were doggone not gonna let them go to waste:D. I used mine a few days after the opener, and Joe shot a HUGE doe Saturday. They came running right at him and he felt he had to shoot almost in self defense! Thats 4 for Joe this year. 2 bucks and 2 doe. 2 with the bow and 2 with the gun. This was a good year for our house and venison. Between Joe and I, we took 6 deer! Our record. We also have that super crunchy ice that makes a racket wherever you walk. I was only going out in the afternoons for that reason. I got to hunt a whole lot this season due to my unemployment and I had a blast. Getting a buck would have been better, but it is a good year so far. We still have the smokepole season in front of us yet also. Good Luck to anyone going out for what left of the season. beagleboy
Still have 2 dmp doe tags and a antlerless muzzle tag. Going out in the morning with the smokepole. I have not seen a doe in three weeks.
Turkeygirl
Oh yeah, that crunchy snow we walked through yesterday...easy to hear the deer coming, even easier to spook the deer. I'm planning later this week to go out with the bow....never bow hunted late season before, so to put a tag on buck or doe would be a thrill. Ruth, you would become Queen of the forest to make a bow kill this late of the season:D. With the bulk of the heavy clothes, I find it almost impossible to draw a bow back when its below 40 degrees. I hope you get one! Good Luck!
RangerClay
We had a great day Saturday. We put on four drives. In all we saw about 40 deer, 6 of them were bucks. Unfortunately none were shooters. We are excited about ML season this weekend and hopefully seeing a bigger buck. buckshot
I had a good year also ,I got a nice doe with the bow and a small buck with the rifle. So our house won't be going hungry this winter.I had a dmp tag and was tempted to go out and fill it but decided not to.I didn't want to take a chance and spook deer off our property onto the neighbors, I would rather leave the deer for next season. So I gave my dmp tag to the Pastor of our church hoping he would fill it.
