Guest lpfireguy151
Hey all you fellow brother and sister hunters. We have been talking about the rut up here in our area of northwest Indiana, and we have noticed not all that much of a agresive behavior in the bucks that wev'e seen. Necks arn't swollen like normal, agresiveness isn't there either. One of the ideas we had is either rut was later this year or the buck too doe ratio is off. Has anyone notice the same thing in the woods or are we just a bunch of freaks up here.. Come on late archery season.
hangunnr
I did not see the average rutting activity this year. I did not see a single doe getting pushed. The scrapes and rubs were present but the normal chasing wasn't seen. As far as the bucks having swollen necks....the one I killed was swollen huge. A couple of my buds reported not seeing much activity either. hangunnr
whttlbucksteve
I didn't see half the activity as last year, not as many big bucks getting shot either.
IN_hunter
im in the same boat in west central indiana(tippecanoe) I saw all the rubs and scrapes but really no sign other than that. All the big bucks that i have seen have been either by themselves or with another buck. Im stumped
Hoosierbuck
I didn't get out that much during bow, but even when I did, on up in November, I saw does feeding unmolested. Then gun season opened. Lots of little bucks cruising around, one small scuffle. Then several does went by, nothing followed immediately. Then a couple of does came up and bedded 20 yards behind me. Several little bucks came in and gave a little chase, but the big girl gave them the slip and laid back down. Then a nicer, near-shooter came in and gave chase. She was duckign him when a big boy came in and chased her around and around for a few minutes until he died. Neck was the largest I have ever seen. Had a good size tine broken off. Note his thick neck in the skinned out picture. (He was just over 200# dressed.) On the other hand, the does hanging either side were out of a party of 4 that were feeding that evening in cut corn without a buck in sight. Guest lpfireguy151
Nice to see my fellow northern hoosier hunters had good luck. H.B. that was a nice buck. Who knows hunting is like women.. If we knew everyhting about them and understood them we wouldn't chase them. Anyways keep your eyes open and good luck to you all. Did you get that big guy out of Tippi park or off of private land?? I live 30 mins north of there and had always want to go down there and give it a whirl. Merry Christmas to you all, and God bless the Red, White, and Blue !!! Buy a Vet a cold one while they are home.
RJF
hello all im from central indiana the rutting activity has been done at night from all my videos and trail cam pics. Ive gotten over 30 different buck pictures. My dad took a decent 7 pointer ( hes totally handicapped so big deer for him. My girlfriend smoked her first buck this year with a bow a 145 ish ten point. Ive gotten a couple monsters on the trail cam. Ive been holding out hoping to get a crack at one of them. Im handicapped as well and have hunted every evening during bow, firarms and muzzleloader. The rut seemed like it is not there no deer movement till 2 to 3 am
The_Kat
could it have came early or maybe not came yet? I remember last year in Oklahoma the rut didn't kick in til dang near december around here....which is 2-3 weeks late. Just a thought! BTW-our rut was very strong this season in SE Oklahoma. Plenty of activity, and still some going on to date. Best of luck guys!
djohns13
Wacky rut I hunt in central Indiana (Hendricks County) and the only bucks I saw pushing does were all very small. They were pushing the does hard though. I did see several larger bucks but they were all by themselves. My buddy hunts in White County and they had a very aggressive rut with lots of bucks chasing hard. Good shooting.
layin on the smackdown
i hunted in central IL from Nov 5 - Nov 14th, and i saw some decent rut activity, but it seemed to be in very small spurts...And in my home area (N, NW IL), i witnessed the same stuff you all are talking about...immature bucks doing all the chasing...I did see a giant tending a doe, but that was it. It seemed to be very weak or inconsistent...
