Vortex vs Leopould

I have never even looked through a vortex so I have no opinion on them. But I own many Leupolds & several Nikons. I will take the Leupold VX-II or Vari-x & VX-IIIs (3-9's, 4-12s, 1.5-5s, 2,5-8s)over my nikon Monarchs(2-7s, 3-9s). But I like the Monarch better than the cheaper Leupolds.

The biggest thing I disslike about Nikons is that the "sweet spot" to see through the scope is very small. If you are not right on then it is like looking through a stovepipe. Leupolds are much more forgiving in this respect. IMHO Leupolds are just plain better hunting scopes.

Sorry, I have a mixed bag to report. I have a Leupold scope on my rifle and on my Muzzleloader but not one of each scope to make the comparison.

I have the Vortex binos 10x42 Sidewinders. I never had a better pair of binos like these. I have picked out the smallest part of a deer at a great distance using these binos.

Both are made in USA. Both have great warranties.

Each have fabulous clarity.

Vortex is new to scopes but I have no doubt they will be great.

I stuck with Leupold as I have a 30.06 Remington 700 SS and a .50 cal Remington 700ML both synthetic stocks. I just wanted to have it almost a matched pair if you will, so I did not have to make any major adjustments in my shooting style by adjusting to different equipment.

I'd like to get a Vortex on my 30.30

best place to get them from is right from a RT member jayhawk:

I bought my sidewinders from him at a great price.

I have no first hand knowledge on Vortex...but, through my research online about Zeiss I've found the following in regards to Leupold and Nikon:

-Nikon Monarch glass is hands down brighter and clearer edge to edge than any Leupold.

-Nikon Monarch is fairly equal to Zeiss in these two areas.

Now these are by no means my own findings or opinions...only what I've read online. I went with Zeiss myself for my 7mm. Do a search of sniper forums and such and you can find a ton of info through 'site searches'. I talked to some USMC 'gun' guys and D'Arcy Echols' gunsmith (to verify I did it right) in regards to my scope mounting "best methods". I'm thoroughly satisfied.

Good luck on the research.

The prices on the vortex scopes at the link Flintlock provided do look to be good prices, just don't know much about them. Guessing you would have to step up to the viper series scopes from what I am reading to be in the same class as the vxII leupold line.

Think I have my mind made up on a leupold vxIII scope for my A bolt.
