I give up.... Seriously, I give up.

Im waiving the white flag. Im not sure what ive done to deserve 2008 but here probably the worst 30+ hours ive spent in years.

Tosh (My wife) called me Monday on my way home in a panic. She then hung up. I didn't know what it was all about so I drove 90mph home. Come to find out the power pole with our meter snapped off at the ground and fell on my truck (which paid off the first of the year). We called AEP/ PSO to come and fix the power. They said they would set a new pole and get everything working. We went to Tosh's mom and dad's. We came by a couple of hours later, the pole was still on the ground and the wires had been cut. I called PSO and they told me it wasn't their pole, they wouldn't replace it!

After about 1.5 hours of burning butts on the phone it did little good. So Tosh and I ended up digging a 6' stub out of the ground. It took until 1:00a.m in the rain, sleet, and snow. We went in the house and no more made it to bed and a bad storm hit. We ended up bringing the girls to bed so the storm wouldn't scare them and they wouldn't get cold. I was back up at 7:00 looking for a telephone post. After about 2 hours I couldn't find a true telephone post anywhere. The post needed to be 25' and all anyone withing a 60 mile radius had was a 14' pole.

I finally called PSO again. I got some IDIOT and finally asked for his manager. After about 15 more channels I got in touch with a chick in Vinita, OK. She told me to bring a trailer and come up there. They finally gave me a post, I cut it 25', a guy working in their yard loaded it for me. I met Tosh's cousin back at the house (he is a licensed electrician). We set a 25' pole by hand, packed it with mud and gravel, and started on the electric.

Because its all tied to the pole it pulled the electric out of the ground, trashed the boxes, broke the main breaker, and a ton of other stuff. He and I sat outside all day working on that. We like to froze to death. We literally had ice on our gloves. Finally I called PSO at 6:00 to tell them it was ready. Their truck showed at 7:00 just as Brad was stuffing in the last couple of wires. It took the guy about 30-minutes to get the power hooked back up.

So Monday I dug a 6' hole and pulled out the stump of a post working until 1:00, yesterday we spent from 9:00 am to 7:30 pm in freezing temps with 25mph north winds, snow sleet, etc and my truck bed is ruined and will need to be replaced.

The only good thing is that Brad has connections and the electrical stuff only cost $125. That of course doesnt include the shortbed on my F-150......

With the exception of the birth of our second daughter, 08 has been pretty crappy.

Ouch...That bites Jeramie. But it does look you knew who's cage to rattle to get another pole. I imagine the pole was on your side of the property line, correct? Thats why you had to replace it.

Your lucky you had a electrician in the family. Think about how long it would have taken a worker(s) under those conditions. I'd say you were a bit motivated.

No one got hurt...thats the important part.

Will your homeowners Ins help out with the truck?

Good luck.

Actually, I have 5 poles stretching across my place. They said the other 4 were theirs but the last was not. How they know that is beyond me but they wouldnt budge....

And we havent called on home owners insurance. I plan on doing so. The only major thing is that it could drive up the cost because of a claim. If that is the case Im living with a very dented truck bed...

Dropped full coverage at the first of the year. I have a commuter car. I drive the truck about once a month, maybe. During hunting season ive been driving a little more but basically it just sits at the house.

My mom works for AEP and if I'm not mistaken, any pole that has your meter on it is yours. They supply everything up to the meter, so from the meter pole on is yours.

I guess that is the case. Still, they were a pain to work with.

Good luck with the insurance company Jeramie.

I had to pay for my poles when we had our electric run. Figure it is only a matter of time before one or more of them has to be replaced, however I think since the power company maintains poles in other peoples yards I would kind of expect them to do the same for us.

Know what this means? 2009 is going to be a banner year for you Jeramie.:) ( Hope so anyway)

The power company has a pole they installed on our property years before we moved here. With the new house.....we ran all the wires underground from their pole to a meter we set on a 5 ft pole in the back yard.

That's too bad Jeramie,

I don't know what else has been going on with you this year, but I'm glad to hear of your new daughter.

It's cliche' to say look on the brighter side, but lately I've been doing just that. I teach a clinical rotation on a trauma unit and every week I see things that make me realize how bad things could be. Last week a guy was hit while driving his family. His wife was pregnant. She had a head injury and is now in a vegetative state and the baby (born via c-section at 32 weeks) is also suffering brain damage.

I see these kinds of cases every week and thank God for His protection.

There's a Reality Check right there!

Things could seriously be alot worse in alot of our lives than the petty stuff we're dealing with...especially compared to that families situation above:(
