Anti-Hunter Considered Front Runner as New EPA Administrator

Candidate Discarded New Jersey Black Bear Management Plan in 06

12/10/08

While the discussion over the new Secretary of the Interior remains hot, sportsmen should keep their eyes on another key post for the incoming Obama Administration- Environmental Protection Agency Administrator (EPA). From various sources, it is becoming increasingly likely that the President-elect will tap Lisa Jackson, the current administrator for the New Jersey EPA and a seasoned opponent of hunting.

Jackson played a pivotal role during the battles over a controlled New Jersey bear hunt during 2006 and 2007. In fact, she demonstrated her anti-hunting bias by discarding the state’s black bear management plan. The U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance Foundation and other sportsmen’s groups then sued the state in order to permit the hunt. Eventually, an appeals court found that Jackson had overstepped her authority when she unilaterally withdrew the state’s black bear management policy, though the hunt was not allowed to continue for technical reasons.

I have yet to hear of any decision or plan from Obama that I would really consider to be good.

Did catch some very startling polls on the world news last night on Obama though. I can only hope that some of those 64 percent of the people of this country who think he will do a good job and approve of his choices so far will take the blinders off before it is too late for us all.
