Tominator
Local news is reporting that Sabathia will soon sign a deal with the Yankees. Hmmm, imagine that. Steinbrenner opens the wallet again. Hope he gets the same results as all the other high dollar free agents have provided for him for the last few years. Guest Finn
I hate the Yankees....but love seeing them not win the Series with that huge payroll
PotashRLS
Dirty @#%$%#^$%#$%$%#^$%#^$@ Without salary caps and ousting the players union, this is the future of the Great American Sport. Greedy Unions are killing our country because they can. IMHO.
DSGB
Looks like they're going after Burnett, as well.
c_lou
C.C. was used and abused by the Brewers last season. There is zero chance that it took it's toll on a 300 pounder. Good Luck with all that.
MCH
I love the comment from the fan that called in yesterday...he said everyone was reporting that the Yanks just signed the best pitcher in the majors and heck, he's not even the best pitcher in New York(Santana). I'm VERY surprised that CC signed with an American League team. He had fun in the NL. I think the Yanks are getting the Indians CC, not the Brewers CC. muggs
getting the Indians CC, not the Brewers CC. You mean the Cy Young winner? He was a monster in Cleveland too. He's been in the league since he as a hefty 19 year old. He's finally coming of age and in the last two years, he's learned now to pitch instead of throw. You have to realize, he's been pretty raw up until the 2007 season. Think of Randy Johnson, he was terrible in his younger years and then everything came together for him. CC's learned to rely on his curve, which is great, and especially his changeup which is probably one of the best in the majors- besides Hamels. No one credits him for it, but he's blossomed into a pitcher. I've obviously watched a lot of him, and earlier in his career he would reached back for something extra to get outs, now he "pitches' to guy and works counts. If he didn't switch leagues half way through last season, he would have easily won consecutive Cy Young's and that would have put him in some elite company. Don't let his numbers with the Tribe from the beginning of last season fool you. About once a year he losses his delivery and I think he must tip his pitches and he gets hit HARD. But he always works out of it. But, like you guys have said...not only did the Brew Crew work him hard, but he's thrown over 200 innings every year he's been in the Bigs I'm pretty sure (maybe not his rookie year). That has to be an issue, especially coupled with his weight. I think the biggest concern the Yanks should have is his ability to handle pressure which he hasn't really been able to do in his career. He didn't pitch well in the '07 postseason for the Tribe, and he choked in some must win games for the Brewers. Now, not only is he playing in that media-crazed city where fans boo A-Rod for not living up to his contract, but he's got the richest contract a pitcher has ever signed looming over his head. I'm not sure how this will end up. I love CC, he was a class act and a product of the Tribe's farm system...but now that he's in pinstripes I hope he fails. MCH
You mean the Cy Young winner? He was a monster in Cleveland too. What did he do with Cleveland last year?? Didn't he have a losing record and like a 4 ERA??? CC's a good pitcher...but he didn't deserve that type of money. He'll win close to 20 games with the Yanks if he stays healthy, but he'll never pitch as well as he did with the Brewers.
buckbuster11
He'll never live up to that contract, nobody can. Quarter Billion for CC and Burnett. Wow. Meanwhile the Yanks are asking the city of New York for something like an additional $400 million for their over budget new stadium. Baseball sucks. MCH
It just keeps getting worse. I mean, the nation is in a recession for heaven's sake. If the economy gets any worse, maybe the Yanks will ask Congress for a bailout package????

muggs
Yeah, Kev, you're right he struggled at the beginning of the year with the Tribe but he was dominate his last 4 starts or so before they dealt him and he carried it over and then some with the Brewers. Honestly, the Yankees are ruining baseball for me. Without a salary cap, I think the league is going to marginalize a lot of fans. Especially considering the parity in the NFL and the quality of that product. Sure, people are always going to go to a game or two to spend a summer evening, but for teams that just can't put a quality product on the field, how can they keep their fans attention? They probably don't care though- the big boys call the shots and spend spend spend and the little guys don't need to fil the seats because of the revenue sharing. Pretty lame. buckbuster11
Yeah I agree with muggsbow (eh...I think I just threw up in my mouth a little bit) baseball is lame. I won't go to another baseball game again unless something changes. MLB is luckier than all get out that they have a couple good GMs in Oakland, Tampa, and a couple other places to keep it interesting. Otherwise they could just play the world series between LA and New York every year and be done with it.

I think it's preserved its integrity moreso than most professional sports (NBA!!!). Yankees haven't won in ten years and the Dodgers haven't won in over 20 years! Seeing underdog teams like the White Sox and Phillies and the Marlins win the world series has to be exciting for some people?!
VABuckSlayer
I'm happy to see the Yankees get CC and Burnett but the money thing is just crazy. Baseball players in general are over payed. It's just ridiculous how much money teams like New York, Boston.... will throw around for players. There's just too much money invovled in professional sports anymore and the product we receive has suffered for it over the years! My opinion... I used to be a huge baseball fan!
