slugshooter
Was reading in a preview mag about the possibility that Junior might not drive for DEI much longer, it seems like there is a lot of internal strife going on over there as evidenced by his contract renegotiations last year. What do you guys think of this possibility? I mean, it just doesn't seem right that Junior wouldn't drive for DEI even if he is producing and because of who he is, I mean, I know Teresa own's the team and all, maybe she is a witch in real life and hard to get along with. I guess not being Junior's real mother might have something to do with it and it is a business and all. It just doesn't seem right for Junior to drive for anyone else. VermontHunter
Re: Junior and D.E.I. Remember, Dale Jr. has his own race team also....and you're right we have no clue as to what goes on behind closed doors, it will be something to watch for in the future tho. VermontHunter
Re: Junior and D.E.I. You honestly believe the #3 will ever return to the track ?? If it does who better to bring back the #3 that Dale Jr.. This is a interesting prospect to keep an eye on for sure..

He has proven he can be a winner without Sr. holding his hand. I think a lot of Earnhardt fans would like to see him drive for Childress. VermontHunter
Re: Junior and D.E.I. I agree I don't see where Dale Jr. has anything to prove as far has his driving ability is concerned..and think he is one of the most level headed drivers out there today.....I would love to see him commerate his fathers Black #3 and then move onto his own image.... [/ QUOTE ] Shouldn't he build his own legacy rather than riding his father's? [/ QUOTE ] He already has. Although, I would rather see a black #8. If Junior goes anywhere, it'll be to RCR. But, he won't go anywhere. If you watched CMT Uncut with Dale Jr, you know he's only got 10 to 15 years left in the Cup Series. I think he'll be with DEI all the way. But I can't see him driving the Black #3. That's his father's legacy, he deserves his own. I wasn't trying to discredit anything Jr. has done, just suggesting that driving a Black #3 would push him back into Sr's shadow.

[/ QUOTE ] Not sure I agree with you Racksie, and that in itself is a first...lol. He drove the #3 Childress car in the Busch race at Daytone a few years ago and won. I may be mistaken, but I think he drove it because his father was gonna use the sponsor(Oreo maybe?...I'm drawing a blank) as his sponsor for either the Winston, or a Daytona race, and he wanted to fullfill his fathers obligation. Thats the story I read anyway. I believe personally that he could drive a black #3, and stand on his own doing it. Just my personal opinion. I do hope that he doesn't leave DEI. Would be great to see him drive his whole career ,and be succesful with the team his father started.
Steven
Re: Junior and D.E.I. [ QUOTE ] Not sure I agree with you Racksie, and that in itself is a first...lol. [/ QUOTE ] Then you're in violation of forum rukes. It clearly states that all forum users must agree with me at all times. I guess it just comes down to a difference in personality. Straight out of high school I could've gone to work with my father in a nice sales job and taken his place when he retired. I also could've gotten a job at GM with just a phone call from my grandfather, but I wanted to find my own legacy. It took me 11 years out of high school to find my own path but I finally have. I just believe everybody should do whatever it takes to distinguish themselves from their predecessors. I really don't even know why I'm, not arguing, but debating, I guess. I'm not even much of a NASCAR fan anymore. Haven't even watched a non-Daytona race in about 3 years.

MUDRUNNER
Re: Junior and D.E.I. I THINK JUNIOR WILL STAY WITH DEI FOR QUITE A WHILE.IT WOULD BE A HUGE FINANCIAL MISTAKE FOR DEI TO LET HIM GO ANYWHERE.THEY SELL A TON OF #8 MERCHANDISE.I WOULDN'T BE SURPRISED TO SEE STEWART AND JR. DEI TEAMMATES IN THE NEXT FEW YEARS.
dg
Re: Junior and D.E.I. Building his own legacy? He's driving for DEI. No matter where he goes, what he does, he has "the name". I'm a Sr. fan and would love to see that Black #3 Chevy Monte Carlo on the track again. Jr would be the only one I'd want to see driving it.......Jr has a reputation for being a good driver and I don't think he has to prove that anymore. I could see him leaving DEI if he thought it would mean a championship.
spyderpancake
Re: Junior and D.E.I. I think the whole internal strife thing is overrated. there could be things going on that we don't know about, but i don't think he and teresa are butting heads. besides, junior basically IS dei. without the #8 they would be a pretty pitiful team. I think that DEI will have a Nextel championship trophy on the mantle within 3 years max.

[/ QUOTE ] 2X Daytona 500 Champion Michael Waltrip and 2004 Busch Champion Martin Truex Jr. I would say those two alone are better than a most 2- and 3-car (Penske, Ganassi) teams today. spyderpancake
Re: Junior and D.E.I. I agree, Martin Truex Jr. is a great driver with a great team, but he is part of Chance2 Motorsports, which is half-owned by Junior. Mikie is a good driver, and hopefully they will turn the corner this season, but last year they were, as I said earlier, a pretty pitiful team. They did have a couple of good showings, but most weekends they were not even a threat to the top 10. I'm not bashing Waltrip at all, they just need to correct some problems. Junior is the glue that holds DEI together.

[/ QUOTE ] Good thing this monitor was expensive...a brick might have gone through it. Kerry Earnhardt has had the worst luck in the Cup Series. He was with a terrible team in the Busch Series. I think he'll be a good top-15 driver in the NCTS this year with BB racing (#15 - DEI engines). Only one guy would be in a black #3 ever again, and I don't see that happening. I believe Junior is with DEI/Bud through 2008 or 2009. Now, the big question is which ride will Truex get...the 15 or the 1? I think he'll go right in the 1 in 2006 no matter what. Hopefully Waltrip is still around. A 16th place points finish was a great job by that team last year, considering all their bad breaks. [/ QUOTE ] This may seem harsh, but all Kerry has is the Earnhardt name. He doesn't have the talent to make it in Cup, or Busch. I honestly doubt he will be a top 15 in the Truck series either. His name has gotten him the chances that he has had. His talent, or lack of, has lost him those rides. I would love to see him succeed, but I honestly doubt it will happen. OJR
Re: Junior and D.E.I. As to DEI, who did Dale, Sr. drive for? Not DEI, but RCR! Why couldn't Jr. go over there?
