SuperMn106
Well everyone, I have been doing some thinking when I have been in the stand. Just recently I moved out of my contruction profession and moved in to a warehouse. It is work that I have previous experience. It has been going pretty good and I am with a Great company. Drury Hotels. It was just the other that I thought to myself that I would never be truely happy unless I went to college and got my teaching degree. Ever since I graduated high school I have always wanted to be a teacher and a coach. I wanted to teach Physical Education and Mathmatics and coach Wrestling and Football. My only concern is starting a little late, I am 24 years old, but I guess it is never too late to make yourself happy. So my goal is now to start looking for information at our local college and starting that journey of my life. The girlfriend is worried that when I become a teacher and a coach I would not have much time for hunting and I told her I could find time. Just thought I let you guys know, any teachers have any advice before I embark on my journey.

Alisha
Mike, if you have the money, then shoot for your dream! I was just talking to my sister this evening about college, and she said there is a man at her University that is in his late 70's or early 80's and he is a student there. So that alone is proof that you can never be too old to go back to school! Good luck!
Tominator
Kidding. Pay sucks, but the rewards cannot be measured.
The_Kat
Teaching is great, coaching is even better! I have VERY LIMITED experience....but I majored in criminal justice, and minored in physical education. I got to sub a lil bit, as well as student teach. I think you'll be quite happy. One word of advice though....make sure you can be committed. The program is tough! My minor classes were so much harder than any of my criminal justice classes. Jenns full major is education...she's been at it 4 years and still has one year left to go! Best of luck though bud, you'll love it. I know if my job doesn't pan out I'm gonna try to get a coaching job.

slugshooter
I am 32 and considering going into teaching because it is always something that appealed to me. Now that I have a degree, I can do something about it. Check how Missouri is on allowing you to teach before you become certified. The route that I plan to take here in Florida is, first, you take a Subject Area Exam, which for me would be Social Studies, then technically, you can apply for your Temp Teaching License. I am going to take the General Knowledge Exam, which covers math, and grammar, and then apply. You can start teaching and then you have 3 years to get your professional certification. Because I my military background, I get three years experience credit. If I don't think I am too old, then you definitely aren't.

Jeramie
My only concern is starting a little late, I am 24 years old, but I guess it is never too late to make yourself happy. Not at all. I started back to College around that age to finish an engineering degree. I didnt and now im 32. I wish life wouldnt have gotten in the way. I would have had that degree by now. Do it while youre still young. Otherwise youll wake up at 32 and say, "Dang I should have done that."
SuperMn106
Great advice guys, thanks! Now the biggest challenge would be balancing my work schedule with the classes and still bringing in money to make the bills.

SuperMn106
take a look at possible grants that can help off set loans and supplement income teaching is great but you are not going to get rich:) Rich to me is not all about money. If I can have a piece of mind and be happy with what I do and have a healthy family, that is rich for me.
