For more information, due to the picture quality, the co-worker that took the picture said it had a longer 3-4" beak. That leads me alway from grouse, but again i don't really know.

Not sure where u are but it could be a Wood Cock, a big one but we have shot a few big ones in the area we hunt. And one with a pretty big tail but that tail on that really seams to say grouse.....them are my guesses.

A ruffed grouse does not have a 3-4 inch beak, or even close. A woodcock does not have that long a neck.

The picture quality is pretty bad, but it could be a flicker of some sort. Especially if it really has a long beak.

Doc

I think the dude describing the bird was way off on how long the beak was. Flicker's beaks aren't even that long.

That's a grouse, 99.99999% sure. :D
