An Old Bad Boy Falls in MS

Yesterday (2 days after the full moon) I was hunting a stand where I'd seen a lot of activity the previous day. It's the 2nd to the last day of our Primitive Weapon season. The weather had turned warm and windy though unlike the prior morning so with the full moon and weather conditions I sure felt like it was going to be a long morning. About 7:00 a spike and a 110 class 8 point approach my stand. They fed around me for 15 minutes or so when the 8 point throws up his head and stares back to my right. He trots off out of sight. A few minutes later he comes right back, stops below me and stares over his back. I'm looking for whatever he's seeing and see nothing. He finally settles back down when another spike appears to my right. The 8 point gradually eases up toward him. They both look back to my right and a doe appears. As they started to approach her this massive 8 point comes charging in, head down to run them off. They part and the big 8 stops behind a tree. No shot there so after what seemed like forever he finally steps out broadside and I put it right behind his shoulder and fire. The buck runs maybe 25 yards and stops all hunched up. Fearing a poor hit I quickly reload and then wait for another broadside shot. My 2nd shot drops him right there. I figured he was done but I was wrong. While I'm watching him through my binocs he stands up. I drop the binocs, quickly reload again and drop him for the 2nd time with a center shoulder shot. He expired a few seconds later. To say the least that was a tense experience. First shot was behind the shoulder but a little low. 2nd shot was low shoulder and yes the 3rd shot was center shoulder. This buck is probably the most symmetrical buck I've ever killed. Gross green score is 137 3/8 with only 1/2" of deductions for you netters. The jawbone indicates he's a 5 1/2 year old buck.

Great looking deer!

Congratulations!

I've never had to flip the bill for 2 mounts in 1 year. It would be a nice problem to have. I think I'd have to sell my wifes bookcase to get the extra money.:D

I think this is the 3rd time I've had to do that. The other 2 times was when my son killed one bigger than mine. One of those times he bumped me out of the lead in a big buck pot and I had to settle for 2nd place. I sure didn't mind at all though.

Very Nice Al...Got the Taxidermist on speed dial dont ya:D

How'd ya know Gary? :D Stopped by his house on the way home. :p:D

Thanks everybody
