Jeramie
Im setting up over decoys for the first time. Ive always been a "Pond Jumper." We have 14 ponds so it was always easy. Still, im stoked about hunting over deeks... Im taking out a Mossberg 500, 20ga after green heads. What load (3" of course) and choke should I use? Btw, im using factory chokes. I need to go buy the shells today or tomorrow at the latest.
dogdoc
I would pick up some #3 or #4--I personally like the #3. I use an IC choke when shooting over decoys. Sometimes when they are decoying really well i'll put in my open choke. If shots are over 25 yards then I'd probably put in the modified---steel patterns quite a bit tighter than lead. good luck todd
RTF
Let me know how you make out with the 20 gauge.
Jeramie
Will Do. Im going to take a lot of shots. Most will be close by. Our ponds are all pretty small (with the exception of a few).
bluelund79
As dogdoc stated, start with the IC first, but take the modified along too. If they aren't decoying close enough, change the choke out during the hunt if need be. My 20 ga patterned Winchester #2's a little better than the 4's, but not by much. Have fun, wish duck was still open up here, but it was a great season! Eric
hutchies
I'm shooting a Modified with #4's out of my 835.........Due to the short 24" barrel and the long shots we have been getting.........30 to 40 yards with 20 mph winds I have been considering throwing my full choke in and giving it a try. Tecumseh
I have my girlfriends remington 1187 20 ga set up with the factory mod tube and shooting #2 hevi steel. So far it's worked great.
duckslayer
I always shot #2 steel out of my ten gauge with a modified choke. Modified reaches out beyond the decoys, and it's not too tight for ducks that come in. Good luck!
