....but since the topic is 500 Smith I'll address that...

I've had the chance to run about 50 rounds through a friends 500. His gun wasn't scoped but that doesn't diminish the worth of the gun. Accuracy was good and I found it fairly easy to hit with. As with any of the big scoped handguns a rest is your best friend for ultimate accuracy.

What use did you have in mind?

The 500 will work well for that purpose, If that's the route you intend to go.

I started shooting the 460 out of necessity, coming from Illinois, regulations held us to using a straight walled cartridge and the 460 filled that bill nicely. Plus it is truly a 200 yard cartridge.

There are a large variety of chamberings that will fill your need. It's a matter of what you truly want to do.
