hangunnr
The 460 is better..................... Actually, the 458WM is better... ....but since the topic is 500 Smith I'll address that... I've had the chance to run about 50 rounds through a friends 500. His gun wasn't scoped but that doesn't diminish the worth of the gun. Accuracy was good and I found it fairly easy to hit with. As with any of the big scoped handguns a rest is your best friend for ultimate accuracy. What use did you have in mind? hangunnr

JJL
The 500 will work well for that purpose, If that's the route you intend to go. I started shooting the 460 out of necessity, coming from Illinois, regulations held us to using a straight walled cartridge and the 460 filled that bill nicely. Plus it is truly a 200 yard cartridge. There are a large variety of chamberings that will fill your need. It's a matter of what you truly want to do.
Hoosierbuck
I have an Encore Carbine in .500 S&W. I can not directly comment on the handguns, but I can speak to the devastating effect that round has had on the 3 deer my Encore has killed with it. Simply massive damage and shock. Shooting the Winchester factory Platinum Tip 400 gr. HP's. Great accuracy out of this platform, too. HB
