wtnhunt
Think what you need will end up on what she is going to use it for Dale. What kind of programs will she be running. Might check out the dell laptops, they will put one together for you pretty well however you want/need it, and their prices are usually pretty fair. arrow32
Really like the HP's cousin has one and its done him good. We run a few different small programs off it and it runs great.

bigbuck145
My little sister bought herself a dell laptop and she likes it alot. My dad checked out alot for her and dell seemed to be the best for her. She's in college so it sooted her best. Like wtnhunt said they will build one for what you are looking for or need. Adjam5
The ONLY problem I have with Dell IS... When you call for customer support...Good Luck getting someone and when you do, have fun understanding the person on the other end of the phone:rolleyes: That might be the case with all PC makers today. I have had a few Dells, and that is my experience. Good systems, but customer support bites.
toddyboman
Just ordered a bunch of dell machines for work. Hard to beat their prices. William has a good point of what is she going to be doing with this laptop. That could determine what exactly she needs

Nope. Systemax - made in the USA and all of their customer support is here. Everyone has English as a first language.
unioncountyslayer
Can't go wrong with a MAC, especially for the younger generation users. You'll just need to take out a second mortgage.

Jeramie
Dale Walmart, Best buy, office depot, etc have been running adds on Toshiba laptops. My current laptop is a Toshiba Sattelite. Ive had it for about 7-8 years. Still running. Granted its about to die know but I havent had any troubles with it. The adds have had them for about $380. Thats a great buy. My original cost me over $700.
backwoods07
Dell makes better desktops than they do laptops, but wouldn't be a bad choice for the price. HP isn't a bad laptop either. We just bought the new touchscreen HP. Now THAT is one heck of a computer.

The_Kat
Dale, personally I'd go Dell. I've had gateway, and HP, and BOTH were junk. My dell has lasted a good while and is a tough sucker too. Bascially any computer will work though, the company just has a lil to do with it. I will make a BIG BIG BIG recommendation though. The new windows vista operating system take MUCH more memory than XP. The cheaper listed PC's in those adds are for 1 and 2GB of memory. Vista itself takes 1GB to run. So if it was me, I'd settle for no less than 3B of memory on your new pc. Jenn and I saw some Dells and a toshiba at Best Buy last week and you could get your laptop, a printer, carrying case, and something else for 689.99 total. Thats a steal! JMO ( HaHaHa I used JMO )
gzilla45
If you shop around, you should be able to find a decent deal based on what she needs. Just be sure to get at least 2 gb of ram if it is a vista machine though. I'd get 3 just to be safe as it really uses a lot.
HUNTINGMAN
We have a dell inspiron 1501 laptop and it is the biggest peice of crap you could buy,we have had nothing but trouble out of it.I bought a dell XPS one desk top about two months ago and love it so far.A guy came to the house about 4 months ago and replaced the fan and the mother board in my lap top.It was still getting hot and the people at dell told us that it was not ment to be held in your lap when useing it and that is why it was why it is getting hot, thought this is why it is called a lap top.About two weeks ago we sent it back to dell and they replaced all kinds of things inside and out,it is still slow but maybe it is better know, thank god for extended warrenties.
