Duck Gun

I am looking to buy a new duck gun. I used to have an 870 express super-mag but I want to go to a semi-auto. Which is the best to buy? I'm looking at a Remington 11-87 Super-Mag Waterfowler gun, Winchester Super X3 Waterfowl, and a Benelli SBE2. The Remington and Winchester models come in Mossy Oak Duck Blind what I love that pattern although I've always been a Realtree guy, and the Benelli comes in Advantage Max-4. Which of these guns would be the best to buy?

All quality guns. I think you're going to get a lot of opinions. This is a Ford/Chevy/Dodge debate.

Personally, the Benelli would be my choice, but I tested all the other guns you mentioned and then some before I got my Benelli. Go out and throw a couple up to your shoulder. You'll know which one you want after that.

I also more than likely will be using the gun for turkey's too, which if my turkey hunts go like last year I could have been shooting a 2 3/4 in #9 .410 and still killed both of those birds.

Take a real hard look at a Browning Silver or a Gold (if you can find one). ;)

I'm wanting a gun with the Duck Blind pattern if I can help it, may have to settle for AM4 if I have to.

I bet most of yall are like duck hunting in ky? well maybe not but if you knew where I lived in KY you'd be saying that. I'm from MS and I go back home a couple weeks a year and get my hunting in...

I bought a Benelli M2 several weeks ago and have been very impressed with it since (I put 8 boxes of shells through it last weekend :D). I was debating whether or not to get a SBEII but figured that the $400 difference between the two wasn't worth it. If I can't hit it with a 3" shell and the right choke I'm not going to hit it with a 3.5" shell.

After comparing Remington, Browning, Winchester Berreta, and Benelli I found the Benelli to come up a lot nicer and fit better in my hands. The gas operated guns have a larger forends then the Benelli does, not to mention more to take apart the clean after you get done shooting.

Appreciate it Leo, I'll take a look at that one as well...the Duck Blind pattern on that browning looks good as well

don't forget, you can go to the realstore here on this site and buy camo tape. i've used it, and it works well, is easy to use, and comes in about any pattern you want.;) in fact, i've ordered some camo for my truck just last week.

  • 2 weeks later...

My wife bought me an SBEII as a gift a few years ago....walnut / matte black metal (I'm a classic firearm type of guy). I have used it extensively duck hunting the salt marshes in NC, MD, and NJ...without one problem and not one jam/stovepipe/etc.

Though many shotguns are similar in dependability...I did read an article concerning Argentina dove hunting outfits and their choices. The top two were, in order, Benelli Montefeltro and Browning Silver...followed by the Beretta ??? (I think, can't remember 100% on the third). Keep in mind this was commenting on the functionality and maintenance during and after 1000 round days....so any of these will last probably a couple or more years before even reaching 1000 rounds with the average duck hunter.

Since my wife is Russian/Italian...she highly suggested at least one Italian gun in my case.:D I'm waiting on an AK to show up at any moment now.
