hangunnr
Went out for the final time for the '08 season yesterday. It's been another great year around here as far as the deer hunting has gone. This doe marks #8 for the year. She came to me on one of the nastiest days I've spent on stand. The wind was pretty steady out of the east with gusts up to 25mph. Temps hovered in the low 20s all day with a heavy overcast. Due to a ice storm a couple days earlier everything and I mean everything was covered with about a 1/2" of slick ice. The weather didn't hamper the deer movement in the least bit. I saw 5 different bucks but neither of the big guys that I'd seen in the last couple weeks. I passed on a couple shots during the morning hunt as they were in the 190-200yd range. The gusting winds got the better of me so I wasn't confident in making a shot at that distance. The deer started moving about 2:30 in the afternoon heading for the nearby cornfields. At 3:45 this doe and 5 others broke from cover at 150yds from my position. I actually sat down on my stand which afforded me a solid rested position for the shot. She went another 40yds after taking the shot throught the lungs. hangunnr
Rem308
Way to go! That looks like a good doe, especially with the muzzleloader. These gusty winds are something else...glad to see you connected on one.
Tominator
WTG Charlie. Geez, 8 deer! Great season I'd say. Due to a ice storm a couple days earlier everything and I mean everything was covered with about a 1/2" of slick ice. hangunnr Is that opposed to non-slick ice?
