hutchies
We got some cold weather and birds seem to be headed south. Found a new spot that I tried Saturday. Other than the 25 to 35 MPH winds that kicked up we had a decent day. Saw probably 60 to 75 greenheads. All were very easy to call and didn't want to circle. They just dumped right into the decoys. Unfortunately they wanted to land on the far side..........60 yards away so we moved over there and I'll be danged if they didn't start landing in the middle of the deeks.............a good 35 to 40 yard shot. None the less we got some and fired off alot of rounds.
layin on the smackdown
this cold weather we have had over the past week and a half have pushed the majority of our birds out. Were are locked up with ice, even the rock river is pretty well solid except in town, and we only have bout 200 geese that have stuck around...they all left bout a week ago, and the ones that are here have earned their masters for sure... dogdoc
that tells me you weren't hiddened/camo'd well enough. I've also had that happen to me several times---I then move and the birds start landing where I was---can't figure them out sometimes. hutchies
Todd you maybe right. We were camo'd out from head to toe including face mask and gloves. They never acted like they saw anything just dumped right down into the middle of the decoys. They were coming from behind us and we were on stools huddled up to big huge oak and cottonwood trees. I'll be back out this week and I'm taking some blind material. Hopefully I'll be back with a full limit and pics. Local guy here went out with 2 others last week and they got 3 full limits on ducks and 3 geese. Talk about a good day

hutchies
Snuck in today about 3:30 and there were 50 to 60 birds on the water...............the took off and I busted half the feathers off of one but it never fell. Don't know how.......I hit it twice but I'm starting to think this would be a better morning to mid day spot. Will find out soon.
dogdoc
good luck---my ponds are frozen right now. I went out this morning and spend about 45 minutes busting ice and making a little hole. Put a few floaters in the hold and a few full body mallards standing on the ice. I ended up with 4 gaddies this morning. I think I'm going to change my name to GaddieMan. I've shot more gaddies this season than ever before--but that is ok---I like shooting them and they taste about like a mallard. good luck Hutch! todd
