fly
Here is a picture of my new set up.Remington Genesis "Buckmasters Edition"Scope: Leuopold Ultraslam 3X9X40 with SABR reticle. I hope to try it out during the IL late season antlerless only season (third weekend of January). I had my 7 year old daughter practicing (not shooting yet) with it today. The 4-5 inch eye relief makes it easy for her to acquire the target. The salesman at Cabelas recommended American Pioneer powder with sabot hallow points so that's what I went with.I'm going to try my daughter out with 80 grains of powder. I've heard that should down a deer inside 100 yards? http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/pod/standard-pod-wrapped.jsp?_DARGS=/cabelas/en/common/catalog/pod-link.jsp_A&_DAV=null-cat601638_TGP&rid=&indexId=cat601638&navAction=push&masterpathid=&navCount=0&parentType=index&parentId=cat601638&id=0031501&cmCat=netcon&cm_ven=netcon&cm_cat=www.cabelas.com&cm_pla=N/A&cm_ite=netcon&rid=0180101070502
wtnhunt
Looks good Frank. Not a fan of the American pioneer stuff here. Maybe it will work ok for for you.
Adjam5
Good Luck with the ML'er:) I've heard good things about the Remingtons. I too, did not have good experiences with Shockeys Gold FFG, which is basically the same as APP without Shockey getting a piece. Inconsistent velocities and accuracy out of my T/C. I went back to Pyrodex FFG. Let us know how it works for you. 80 grains of powder with what size bullet?

I was really just getting used to shooting. I started with 100 grains of the American Pioneer Powder and the kick was a little much for my daughter. Eighty grains seemed much better. I did not clean the barrel between shots which may be why my groups were not as good as I hoped. The last three shots were within a 4 inch circle at 50 yards. I'm going to try again and swab the barrel after each shot and see if I have improvement. My cousin suggested using bore butter for each shot as well. Do you all use bore butter? WHAT?!?!?!? you mean your rebuking the great Jim Shockey's fantastic gun powder? It'll shoot 1500 times with out needing to be cleaned! Haven't you seen the commercial its the best there is! bluelund79
Good looking set up! Hope your daughter gets a crack during the late season! Worse comes to worse, you can try different powders during the summer, but for now it'll work fine. I try to swab about every other shot or every third. Don't have any real problems with APP, but I limit my shots to 100 yards or less, and I get 2.5 groups with the same bullets/100 gr of the Gold sticks. And that is with a 1x fixed Cabelas Pine Ridge and a CVA Wolf.
KirkV
Frank I am going by what TC said about bore butter with my pro hunter but they said only to use the bore butter to coat the barrell after totally done shooting and putting the gun away. I use the pre done cleaning/ lube patches fron TC followed by a dry patch inbetween every shot at the range.

I just read the bottle of the black powder and it states not to use lubrication with it. It makes sense to me that anything that might add dampness or water to the powder would not be the best idea. Adjam5
Frank, when you hunt with the MLer it would be a good idea to put a piece of electrical tape, a finger cot or a finger from a latex glove over the muzzle to keep out debris, snow and rain. It does not affect accuracy and will provide piece of mind that there is no moisture down the barrel. Good Luck!
