sureshot
it was a hard season, passed up many bucks that would haunt most with the bow but wanted thsi one boonie I seen 3 times and had one crappy trail cam pic of, never seen him during bow season or ML, I hunted 2 days the first week of rifle seeng a lot of young 140 class deer but not my big one, then a buddy spotted a monster, I went and seen him the second sat, it was him, 8 miles away from were he was in august, I glassed him for 2 hours till he bedded in a huge dried up slough, about 3 miles by 1.5 miles of solid belly button to chest high cattails, i pin pointed him inbetween 2 white markings, he was about a mile out, wind was not perfect but i decided to try a stock, I walked and walked and go to the first white marking, I thenlooked at the second which looked like about a 100yards across from were I was glassing was more like 500 yards apart, I walked till dark for over 5 hours through those cattails trying to put him up, I put up 63 deer that day including 2 that would of pushed the 160 mark but not the big boy, the finall friday I got off work early and seen him in the same area but had no time to get out, so I just glassed till dark, the next am I was there again and glassed for 2 hours no seeing him, I decided to check out a spot were I knew there was good deer, Its a tall hill surrounded with short chokecherrries and its hunting on foot so the deer like it there, I sit on the hill and call coyotes and it makes the deer stand up giving me a shot, I seen 3 bucks but all young deer, as I was driving to the next spot I seen one laying ina field, a look thrugh the spotting scope and he looked pretty good so I went for a walk, came over a knoll and he was bedded 150 yards away, he was a really nice 155 class 5 by 5, but he was really young, I did my hardest thing ever and let him walk, I have shot deer this size and figurewith all the poachers getting caught arounbd he may live till next year and he will be a B&C deer some year maybe even next, it was hard but I believe the right thing!!at 3 oclock I seen a tall buck ina field, he was huge body and only a 4 by 4 so I decided to take a look for him, as I came over the hill the does took off but not him, then I seen what looked like a tumble weed in a small rockpile, it was him one shot and he took off, 2 more and he was down, all 3 were in the chest but did not want him to get into soem thick bush, looking at his teeth he looks to be 5 1/2 I thought older by the size and sagging back, stilla good deer for last minutes of last day,I doubt if he will ever get bigger! I am now waiting till nexyt spring when I can get spotting after one of those 2 big boys, here is a pic of him!
